About this listen

God of the dead. King of the underworld. The unseen. The renowned.

The glorified babysitter.

Zeus has finally decreed that the gods may leave Olympus and anonymously mingle with the mortals of the present. With zero warning or waiting for him to consent to this arrangement, Hades is placed in charge of not only helping the gods assimilate, but also financing them. Unlike the other gods, Hades never withdrew from the mortal world. Instead, he spent six months of every year among them, building a fortune befitting one of his many names. As long as the gods follow his strict rules for living among mortals, they have access to a generous monthly stipend. Break the rules, lose the privileges. No allowances. Ever.

Goddess of spring. The maiden. The mistress. The venerable one.

The social media manager.

For the last two years, Persephone has lived among the mortals, enjoying everything the world she was so sheltered from has to offer. It took years of begging since Zeus's decree to get her mother to allow her to go, and she imparted some strict rules to follow.

Rule 1: No fraternizing with other gods. As far as Demeter is aware, Persephone's next door neighbor is definitely not Helios, the Titan of the Sun.

Rule 2 : No men. The mortal she's casually dating doesn't even know the gods exist.

Rule 3: Every six months, Demeter comes by for a visit. This one Persephone can't get out of, and if it keeps her mother from investigating Persephone's life, what's the harm?

Destiny. Fate. Fortune. Kismet....

An absolute bitch.

Fate has other ideas for Hades and Persephone, and it does not take lightly to being denied. Struggle and fight all they want. But the threads of destiny have wrapped tightly around them and tugs them tighter and tighter, no matter what the gods themselves have to say about it.

Could’ve had a bit more character development

LOTS of well written spicy scenes. Could’ve been better integrating more storyline and character development but a good intro to the Hades & Persephone romance.
If you liked Lore Olympus and are looking for some ‘zest’ this is your book.

Take a shot every time they say "Mine"

I enjoyed the first half of the book. the book had a lot of potential and moved quite fast, which I like cause I can't stand books that drag on which the 2nd half of this book did. the 2nd half was just sex, all day, every day, 3-10 times a day. Which, if you just want to listen to sex scenes, you will enjoy this book. However, I wish it sped things up and continued with the storyline. I didn't realize there would be more books to this series, which is why I listened to the whole book. My jaw dropped when the book seemed to suddenly end. My disappointment. I could've foreshadowed the 2nd half of the book and saved myself 6 hours. A lot of potential, but too slow.

everyone needs therapy

they do weird obsessive not even hot things and almost never actually talk to each other. he never even took her on a real date. I do NOT know why they like each other romantically. there were some hot scenes but as a novel, romance book or anything, it didn't make sense.

Loved this take on Hades and Persephone!

Fair warning there is a cliffhanger but this story is worth it! If you love angst and tension, this story is full of it! And I will never have enough nice things to say about this narrator! The ability to have such a strong male voice as well as female is absolute gold and Nikki pulls it off seamlessly!

Drags on and on

This one book is not the complete story. It probably could be if this wasn't dragged out so much. I started losing interest, checking how much longer the book was, about halfway through. I finished it, but am disappointed with how it ended with a cliffhanger. That's just my feelings about it. Some do like how the story is written.

The narration was mostly good. I think it would have been better if there had been a male narrator with a deep voice to read Hades' chapters. Nikki is talented, but Hades really needed a deep masculine voice.

Amazing!

I received this as an audio review copy.

This is my first time listening to a Hades and Persephone book and I loved it! I typically don’t like 1 person narrating the opposite sex, but Nikki did a fantastic job! I loved the story and the character development. I can’t wait to listen to book 2!

NIKKI GREY

This book, story wise, leaves a lot to be desired, much how both our main characters spend the entire time caught that exact state of craving. While the smutt was enjoyable, the back and forth, push and pull of our main characters got old pretty quickly and seemed to be placed there in an attempt to keep the tension there instead of building it. The ending did leave me wanting to know what happened next.

The NARRATION, HOWEVER!!!!
Disclaimer: I received this audio book through a promotion link for Nikki and will say with confidence that this review is 100% honest.
I finished this book because Nikki kept me there. I enjoyed her narration style more than any other narrator I’ve heard.
Nikki’s voice balances perfectly between soft and smooth and teetering on the edge of rough, perfect for the dual narration that this book calls for. Nikki’s tone, pacing, and emotion are something I would never get tired of hearing.
Can’t wait to listen to more Nikki Grey narrations in the future.

Missing something

Was a struggle to finish. It was hard to see such an amazing mythological couple act like horny 16 year olds.

A Steamy H&P Retelling with a Cliffhanger

This was a really enjoyable listen! Nikki Grey did an amazing job narrating every single character in this mythological romance. If you’ve read a lot of H&P retellings I would say that this was definitely on the spicier side of ones of read. If you’ve read Neon Gods, that one although has more “kink” in it. This one had way more tension and sex. At times I felt like the plot, and inner monologue of the main characters got a tad repetitive, but I enjoyed my time with the story all the same. It does end on a cliffhanger though! So be prepared.

Inconsistent

I really wanted to like this book, but it ticked a few icks that I really couldn't get past. Who needs centuries-old immortals with low self-esteem? Self conscious about their cooking skills, worried the other couldn't possibly love them. Both MCs had low self esteem. I couldn't get over the characters waffling between "hot" and "cold". It didn't make for tension, it just made for inconsistent characterization.

The performer did really well considering the book was set up to be performed by two people.
