Annie Darling led a privileged life until her father passed, and in almost the same instance her virtue was stolen. Now sent to an unwelcoming Aunt, Annie is soon forced to make other arrangements and agrees to travel to Idaho before Christmas and wed Buck Jenkins, a rancher.

Buck Jenkins a solitary mountain man, sees in Annie a chance for love and family, but when she arrives it is soon apparent that his new wife has led a life of ease and is not cut out for the demands of mountain life. For one thing she is tired and weak, and she speaks of frivolities of decorations and Christmas festivities.

Desperate to win his affections before Buck discovers the truth, Annie works hard to make his life comfortable. And when Annie comes to the aid of an injured animal, in spite of himself, a genuine love begins to blossom. However when a mishap causes Annie an injury, the truth is out. Devastated, and resentful, Buck withdraws, and Annie fears her worst nightmare has come true.

As anger and silence pervade their home, Annie makes a dangerous decision and Buck is forced to make a choice. Either leave Annie to her fate, or find the strength to begin again.

Love the short stories, kept you interested, but then went onto a new book, making you wish the book would last longer and new books would come out with the same characters. Great reading enjoyed it very much.
