About this listen

No British monarch has had a tougher act to follow. Now, after seventy years of waiting and preparation, King Charles III is not just the head of the most famous family in the world. He is the custodian of a thousand-year-old institution that must redefine its place in the digital age while others insist on rewriting the past. With unrivaled access to the king, the royal family, and the court, leading royal authority Robert Hardman brings us the inside story on the most pivotal and challenging year for the monarchy in living memory. From the death of Elizabeth II through to the ancient spectacle of the Coronation, from the rise of a new Prince and Princess of Wales to the latest truth bombs from the Sussexes, this is the story of the making of a monarch.

I love the way the author balances his riveting retelling of the King of England’s accession to the throne and the “headwinds” encountered, without getting preachy or biased. He could have been much harsher with describing the shenanigans of Prince Harry and his ghost writers, but keeps it dignified and entertaining at the same time! A good read.

Riveting flow and wonderful detail.

It didn’t provide a contrast and compare very well, but shed light on some of the whiners.

Good but a little biased

I found this to be one of the best books about the Monarchy. Honest without being intrusive.

Refreshing

I've veen waiting in anticipation for this book. It was well worth the wait! When everyone seems to have their 'truth' it is heartfelt to have an author write truthfully. I have the Audible's edition but I have to have a hard copy. ..it's that good. Thank you.

Common ground with truthfulness

Of all the books I have read, this one stands out. The organization, crisp presentation and knowledge is excellent. Upon seeing the book was narrated by the author, my first thought was oh no! But Robert Hardman narrated it beautifully.

Fascinating knowledge

I was delighted to find this wasn't a rehash of the life of King Charles III that we've had ad nauseum. With brief nods to the past, this book focuses on the events after the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. It is a detail and interesting look at the coming together of the funeral, coronation, and the beginning of the reign of the new king.

The author narrates and does so well.

Not a rehash of the same old stuff

Excellent book. I have listened/read many biographies about King Charles and this offered new insights. I loved the part of the book that compared Queen Elizabeth II coronation to King Charles iII coronation in a detail I had not heard anywhere.

Excellent Biography of the first year og King Charles III Reign
