About this listen

No British monarch has had a tougher act to follow. Now, after seventy years of waiting and preparation, King Charles III is not just the head of the most famous family in the world. He is the custodian of a thousand-year-old institution that must redefine its place in the digital age while others insist on rewriting the past. With unrivaled access to the king, the royal family, and the court, leading royal authority Robert Hardman brings us the inside story on the most pivotal and challenging year for the monarchy in living memory. From the death of Elizabeth II through to the ancient spectacle of the Coronation, from the rise of a new Prince and Princess of Wales to the latest truth bombs from the Sussexes, this is the story of the making of a monarch.

Good but a little biased

It didn’t provide a contrast and compare very well, but shed light on some of the whiners.

Refreshing

I found this to be one of the best books about the Monarchy. Honest without being intrusive.

Riveting flow and wonderful detail.

I love the way the author balances his riveting retelling of the King of England’s accession to the throne and the “headwinds” encountered, without getting preachy or biased. He could have been much harsher with describing the shenanigans of Prince Harry and his ghost writers, but keeps it dignified and entertaining at the same time! A good read.

Measured and Detailed View of A Year in the Life

I enjoyed this book, and its treatment of the new British monarch. Especially interesting on how he manages the tight-rope of being a traditional, stabilizing force in the nation AND staying relevant in a fast-changing world. In depth on his commitments to multi-cultural, multi-faith, and environmental issues.

The fIrst 3 hrs made the whole book worth it

The writing was beautiful. I found the personal information wonderful. The seating and the desire for invitations at the coronation a bit of a slog. Enjoyed the information about King Charles method of reigning. What a good man he is... God Save the King..

Wonderful Book

This book was most enjoyable. Mr Hardman filled his book with interesting tidbits and inside details about the monarchy and the way it works. His insights into King Charles III and the people surrounding him are fascinating.

Mr Hardman has a lovely voice and made listening a pleasure.

Extensive Look Into the Modern Monarchy

This is an extensive look into the modern Monarchy under King Charles. The book includes the details for the late Queen's service and King Charles' coronation. Details of the workings and changes that have been made are included as well as roles for the slimmed down working royals (which may have to be revisited since the illnesses). The author narrates his book and has a proper British tone. Parts include minutiae, which can get a bit boring at times. The major events are informative with many attendees interviewed. Great book but be prepared for an extensive listen.

Common ground with truthfulness

I've veen waiting in anticipation for this book. It was well worth the wait! When everyone seems to have their 'truth' it is heartfelt to have an author write truthfully. I have the Audible's edition but I have to have a hard copy. ..it's that good. Thank you.
