About this listen

Throughout her studies, Ceony Twill has harbored a secret, one she's kept from even her mentor, Emery Thane. She's discovered how to practice forms of magic other than her own - an ability long thought impossible.

While all seems set for Ceony to complete her apprenticeship and pass her upcoming final magician's exam, life quickly becomes complicated. To avoid favoritism, Emery sends her to another paper magician for testing, a Folder who despises Emery and cares even less for his apprentice. To make matters worse, a murderous criminal from Ceony's past escapes imprisonment. Now she must track the power-hungry convict across England before he can take his revenge. With her life and loved ones hanging in the balance, Ceony must face a criminal who wields the one magic that she does not, and it may prove more powerful than all her skills combined.

The whimsical and captivating follow-up to The Paper Magician and The Glass Magician, The Master Magician will enchant readers of all ages.

So. Well written cool concepts. But the main characters love arch is to be inferior to her teacher, serve him, and chase him. I just detest the idea of a strong female lead waiting on a man. ... oh because she loves to cook? Doesn't even. Price when she's cleaning. Author is a man you say? No shock there.

Sexist much?

The ending to the Paper Magician series was a bit of everything, literally. In some cases good, but I think the initial book in Holmberg's series gave the most hope. This one gave us the most action and the second really gave us the better sense of villainy. I think that all of the ingredients to a mesmerizing world are present, just not all mixed together in the right proportions. Still, I love the magical ideas she has created and love to suggest it to anyone interested in magic.

Magically good

Story was good, magic inventive, characters show a bit of growth (kind of), a nice wrap to the series.

My only complaint? For some reason the narrator sounds like she was popping Valium. Adjusted the speed up and plowed through, probably would have enjoyed it more and reviewed it better it she had done better this book.

Solid end to a good series

The book is fantastic, and the narrator does justice. I know who every character is before she gets to the speech tags because she is so good about giving everyone their own sound. At times, I actually forgot there was only one narrator!

It is an absolute pleasure to listen to these stories.

Excelent Narration
