About this listen
In this book, authors H.A. Dorfman and Karl Kuehl present their practical and proven strategy for developing the mental skills needed to achieve peak performance at every level of the game.
The theory and applications are illustrated by anecdotes and insights from major and minor league players, who at some point discovered the importance of mastering the inner game in order to play baseball as it should be played.
Intended for players, managers, coaches, agents, and administrators as well as fans who want a more in-depth look at the makeup of the complete baseball player.

Story
Instead of out-drafting, out-signing, and out-trading their rivals, baseball's best minds have turned to out-developing opponents, gaining greater edges than ever by perfecting prospects and eking extra runs out of older athletes who were once written off. Lindbergh and Sawchik take us inside the transformation of former fringe hitters into home-run kings, show how washed-up pitchers have emerged as aces, and document how coaching and scouting are being turned upside down. The MVP Machine charts the future of a sport and offers a lesson that goes beyond baseball.

Story
Every spring, Little Leaguers across the country mimic his stance and squabble over the right to wear his number, 2, the next number to be retired by the world’s most famous ball team. Derek Jeter is their hero. He walks in the footsteps of Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle, and someday his shadow will loom just as large. Yet he has never been the best player in baseball. In fact, he hasn’t always been the best player on his team. But his intangible grace and Jordanesque ability to play big in the biggest of postseason moments make him the face of the modern Yankee dynasty, and of America’s game.

The logical places to look would be the giant offices of major league teams and the dugouts. But the real jackpot is a cache of numbers collected over the years by a strange brotherhood of amateur baseball enthusiasts: software engineers, statisticians, Wall Street analysts, lawyers, and physics professors.

Pete Rose was a legend on the field. As baseball’s hit king, he shattered records that were thought to be unbreakable. And during the 1970s, he was the leader of the Big Red Machine, the Cincinnati Reds team that dominated the game. But he’s also the greatest player who may never enter the Hall of Fame because of his lifetime ban from the sport. Perhaps no other ballplayer’s story is so representative of the triumphs and tragedies of our national pastime.

Story
At a 1931 barnstorming exhibition game in Tennessee, a 17-year-old pitcher for the Chattanooga Lookouts struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig back to back. Her name was Jackie Mitchell - "organized baseball's first girl pitcher." In July 1970, a stripper rushed onto the field at Riverfront Stadium to kiss Johnny Bench, temporarily disrupting a game attended by President Nixon and his family. These are just some of the great, quirky, and comic moments in the annals of baseball recorded in The Greatest Baseball Stories Ever Told.

Dry but great information
This is great for coaches who may not be getting the best out of their players. Being able to tie their theories and factual research and quotes from professional athletes helps you understand that the mental aspect is just as important as the physical aspect of the game.
The reading itself is a bit dry and can be easy to mind wander.

The content, which is extraordinary, is insulted by the narrator. His pattern of speaking trumps punctuation to the point where the reading is nonsensical at times. The exact same one inflection throughout the reading sounds like a newly sentient robot.

Great book, robotic narration
Excellent content but really tough listen due to poor narration. Very robotic, multiple times was convinced it was AI. Makes me want to purchase the hard copy so I can read myself

Useful content vs Robotic Narration
1. ). Useful content: expectations, pressure, preparation, etc.
2.). Numerous examples.
3.). A few chapters I repeated several times.
4.). The chapter Re expectations was worth the book price
5.). Narration was irritating. Robotic. Disappointing.
Regardless, Worth the money and time.

Narrator kills this book
This is good information albeit dated, but what really is important to know is the narrator talks slowly, pauses at inappropriate time and bolsters his voice as if it’s what I’m here for. His flow is as if he’s never read a book to anyone before in his life. Hard to listen to only because of that. As I said the information is good and from a leader in his time.
