"A coppertop steam engine has disappeared," explains a train boiler inspector as he visits Sherlock Holmes at 221B, "and not by the whim of drunken youths." Editorial reviews

In The Missing Coppertop, a Sherlock Holmes mystery by J. R. Campbell, a train boiler inspector visits Holmes with an astonishing discovery: a coppertop steam engine has been stolen, not as a prank, and quite possibly for nefarious purposes. Commandingly performed by acclaimed English actor of the Shakespearean stage David Ian Davies, Holmes appears as quick-witted and humorous as always. Throughout the story's twists and turns and the revelation of the locomotive's dangerous potential, listeners will remain riveted to this classic mystery.

Almost worthy of Doyle

I'm sure J. R. Campbell didn't expect to write a Holmes mystery at the same level as the original author, but his story is pretty close. David Ian Davies does an excellent job of providing voices for each character and they all come close to the voices I've become accustomed to hearing in other Holmes/Watson presentations.

I'll rate this one as, "An interesting Holmes and Watson investigation that could easily slot into the canon stories."

Missing Train Steam Engine

Interesting short tale about a missing steam engine and the train boiler inspector who was conscientious enough to report it to Sherlock Holmes and thus prevent a disaster from happening.

The missing coppertop

I was really enjoying this book and then it was over! It's just too short to evaluate.

Great short Holmes story

The author really channelled Arthur Conan Doyle in this short story. The reader was excellent as well who truly characterized Holmes and Watson.
