About this listen

Blake Wheeler was everything Lila had ever wanted. The 34-year-old surgeon was a rising star with his whole life ahead of him. Blake gave Lila 10 perfect years of marriage before plunging her into the hardest year of their lives.

When a late-night shooting leaves Blake in a coma, Lila is faced with a difficult decision: continue life support or let him go.

One year later Lila remains unwilling to speak in a private mental-health facility, where she refuses to move on.

Dr. Ross Reeves knows firsthand about loss, having spent the better part of five years burying himself in his work. Tasked with the challenge of breaking Lila's silence, Ross investigates Lila's past and her husband's death, finding more to Blake's murder than meets the eye. A series of mysterious coincidences has Ross wondering if Lila is acting out of grief...or guilt.

Fabulous Story!!! Could not put it down!!!

Where does The Missing Year rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was a goody!!!! Great story and narration!

What other book might you compare The Missing Year to and why?

This is a mystery/love story....and a good one!

What does Julia Knippen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Julia is a great narrator, very soothing and easy to listen to...I would listen to her any time!

If you could take any character from The Missing Year out to dinner, who would it be and why?

The Best friend...she seems like fun!

Any additional comments?

I Honestly loved this story! This is a story mostly about dealing with grief and getting passed losing someone you love. I think a lot of people can relate to this. First we have Ross a psychiatrist who is enlisted to help Lila...a mental patient who has just given up entirely on life...Both these characters have lost there spouses...as Ross starts to make progress with Lila...he uncovers a deeper conspiracy to actually destroy Lila's life and has to intervene to help her....LiIa had made some questionable decisions, but they were made in love...and as Ross gets her to open up, he finds the strength to heal also. This was a great listen..I listened to it all in one setting and would highly recommend it!!!

The Missing Year

This was a good book. There are lies, deceits and conspiracies but the main story is of grief and how it affects us.Lila is a grieving widow that ends up in the care of a psychaitrist because she has refused to speak for the last year.
Ross, the Dr in question, has also suffered loss. Can he help her?Can they help each other?
Julie Knippen does a wonderful job narrating this book.

LOVE, LOSS, AND CLOSURE

Psychiatrist Dr. Ross Reeves loses his wife, Sarah, and cannot move on~Lila loses her husband, Blake, and tries to take her life. With many twists, turns, and surprises~they, along with several others, help each other heal. Likable characters (my favorite~Maddie), superb narration, and a page turning story. Highly recommended...

The Missing Year Review

The Missing Year falls somewhere in the middle of all the audiobooks I've listened to. It wasn't my favorite nor was it my least. It sort of had a heavy lingering effect of grief. Understandably Lila is grief-stricken with the loss of her husband and remains in a catatonic state where she's put in an institution then has multiple suicide attempts and refuses to eat.

Dr. Ross also knows loss and has hope for her and tries several techniques to bring her around. He eventually breaks through and in the end, everything resolves once Lila confronts Ruth with a high powered attorney. I liked the characters of Camille and Maddie. This was a good story, just a little heavy on some 'details I don't need to know' category.

Julia Knippen did a terrific job narrating this audiobook. I really liked her characterization and I was very impressed with her performance, She showed great voice control and made this story. It was a good match. Great work.
