In this compelling series of lectures on literary journalism, Professor William McKeen delves into the origins of storytelling, the nature of literary journalism, and the ways in which literary journalism has affected culture and modes of expression. As Professor McKeen takes listeners back to the Second World War and progresses through the history of literary journalism to the present, he introduces such intriguing - and sometimes notorious - writers as John Hersey, Norman Mailer, Gay Talese, Tom Wolfe, and Hunter S. Thompson.

In a world of soundbites and questionable news footage editing it's enlightening to explore Journalism's recent past and this thing called Literary Journalism. This course is a great introduction to familiar & unfamiliar writers who played a huge role in journalism before the advent of the 24-hour cable news channels.

I absolutely enjoyed every moment of every chapter. Not only did I learn great deals about various styles of writing and the extraordinary pioneers behind them; I was inspired to write more and write well!
Listening to McKeen was like relaxing over a cup of java , just he and I, reminiscing on what made the great writers great.

A spendid 'Must' for every aspiring writer!

Though I was expecting to hear more about techniques and styles, I really enjoyed what Professor McKeen presented. Bought three of the books he discussed in this lecture as well.

Not what I expected, but good.

This was pretty good, certainly gave me a list of more reading material. It was organized well to bring the material to light, giving focus to the common thread.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. The way Professor McKeen lectured was too loose. I easily lost part to where he was going. The lectures should be structured better.
