About this listen

For 60 years Eleanor Estes' classic novel about a family struggling to get along in the early part of the century has charmed and delighted readers with its warmth and gentle humor. Now it comes to life in a full cast recording that will have you laughing out loud...and occasionally wiping away a tear. Critic reviews

"The performances are splendid. A woman with a clear and winsome voice performs the narrative. The characters are performed by individual cast members every bit as winsomely and with great verve." (AudioFile)

"Ideal family listening fare." (Booklist)

Fun family read aloud

Not a total classic, but a fun family read. My kids found the acting cute, but more distracting. Perfect light reading.

great series. well read.

My kids are listening to it again. Does that say enough? I like books about siblings getting along. My kids have no trouble learning how to fight. This one is great. plus it encourages being happy with what you have since the dad is dead and the mother struggles to make ends meet.

Cute stories of family life of yesteryear

We enjoyed the simple stories about family life in simpler days. The narration was of poor quality. The voice for Mama was emotionless, monotone and the other adults weren't much better. The narration disrupted and distracted from the sweet stories.

Love it!

Light hearted and fun, this story was one I read as a child, and was able to share it on a road trip with my son who loved it as well.

My kids really enjoyed this

Such a sweet and wholesome story for kids. I love that it's another time for my kids to imagine and sympathise with.

Engagingly narrated for kids

My two boys, under 10 yrs old, loved the story and listened to it multiple times. The story is told from a little girl's perspective which kids can easily identify with. The narrator does a great job of being clear and engaging.
