About this listen

Twenty-two year old Maris has a bright future ahead after receiving acceptance into the college of her dreams, leaving her protective brother Luka and the small bar he manages in rural New York State behind. However, her life takes a profound turn when a stranger attacks and bites her, activating dormant werewolf traits she had no idea existed.

As she flees home and uncovers her newfound abilities in a world completely hidden from her, Maris discovers Luka is the Bestial, an ultra-powerful werewolf who operates outside the law to take down criminals despite the Wolf Council’s objections.

Maris struggles to come to terms with the path her life has taken, along with strong feelings for a werewolf who she takes a blood oath with to protect her despite her brother’s disapproval.

And if that wasn’t enough, her best friend goes missing as they discover Kaser Odessa, a long-forgotten foe, is coming for Luka as he seeks out the Infinite Artifacts. These ancient relics thought to be the stuff of myth hold pieces of the Moonstone, the origin of werewolf kind. Activating a reassembled Moonstone could mean trouble for all werewolves, both those who know about their powers and those whose powers lay dormant, and all life as they know it.

It’s up to Maris and her friends to stop Kaser, find the artifacts, and discover what other abilities she has that will seal their fates forever.

Monsters, magic, werewolves, and a missing friend...can Maris make a difference as the world unravels out of control?

The plot itself was really good. It ended on a cliffhanger that left me waiting book two right away! It's a cool mix of Mortal Instruments and werewolves. Definitely unique. There were so many twists I didn't see coming and thoroughly enjoyed the storyline.

That being said I did notice some inconsistencies in lore around the consort bond that did catch me off guard and made me question if I heard things correctly.

One review I glanced at mentioned there being a lot of name that start with the letter D. I do agree with that review in that it was hard to keep them all straight.

As I listened to the audiobook I found myself wishing, more than once, that I physically read it. There were some words that the narrator pronounced that I wasn't sure what they were. And the accents she did for a few of the characters I found more annoying than helpful to the narration.

In all I definitely want to physically read book 2 when it comes out but I'm not 100% sure if I'll listen to it.

Captivating Plot

Overall I enjoyed The Moonrise of Wolves! Couple of funky continuity things and I definitely have some unanswered questions. But generally the story was fun ans engaging! There was a lot going on, especially towards the end, and I think most of my complaints stem from the narrator and the way she read the book. She had weird pacing in a lot of spots and I feel like a lot of times her intonation didn't fit what was going on in the book. It brought me out of the book a ton and I was scrunching my brows constantly.

I'll definitely reread The Wolves of Moonrise and however many sequels come, but I think I'll buy a physical copy instead.

Super fun story but slightly frustrating narrator

A great read! I really loved the banter and character development as well as the modern werewolf story line.

Loved it!
