About this listen
Jonah Walters used to have the perfect life, but he ruined it with his self-centered ways. Brooklyn Lee once had big dreams, but an unexpected heartbreak made those dreams impossible. Now all Jonah and Brooklyn can do is lead lives of lowered expectations. After all, what's the use of getting your hopes up when there's no chance of your dreams coming true?
The nosy pastor's wife, Maureen, is determined that Family Chapel's annual Mother's Day Tea will be better than ever this year. She's also determined that her nephew Jonah and little "Brookie" Lee will start to dream again.
With a bit of Maureen's charm and meddling, she manages to convince both Brooklyn and Jonah to help her with the upcoming tea. Will Jonah forgive himself for his past mistakes? Will Brooklyn allow God to heal her heart from her terrible loss? Will Brooklyn and Jonah open their hearts to a new dream the Lord has for them?

I was able to enjoy the audiobook, read by Lisa Lynn Sandlin, and she did such a great job. I cannot get enough of her audiobooks. Her voice just brings the characters to life and makes it so enjoyable.
The character development was so good. I loved getting to know Brooklyn and seeing her struggle with all that Mother’s Day brings. It was a great reminder that the celebration of mothers can also be a hard day for some. Jonah has his own hurdles he must overcome. As he is working on co-parenting with his ex-wife while she is moving on. Jonah must overcome these obstacles and seek God in the process.
The storyline was great and very hallmark. I loved the meddling aunt, the baker/caterer meets firefighter- single dad, it made for a great story. The pastor’s wife, Maureen, plays matchmaker and asks Brooklyn and Jonah to work on a silent auction for the Mother’s Day Tea at church. Oh course, nothing is that simple.
The relationship between Brooklyn and Jonah was a sweet, low-spice romance. I loved watching them fall in love and seeing them both open up their hearts and pasts.
Martha Fouts did a fantastic job intertwining faith throughout the book. I was encouraged.
*I received a complimentary copy from the author and voluntarily chose to review it. All opinions are my own.

Both Brooklyn (FMC) and Jonah(the MMC) have hurt in their past and things to work through. And together they help one another heal, and get closer to God. Their relationship was so sweet and cute, and I loved them so much! I think I had a smile on my face half the time I was listening to it 🤭
Jonah is also a dad of an adorable little girl, Ava, and their relationship is amazing, and when Ava gets to know Brooklyn she loves her immediately!
The story is pretty fast paced, but the love story is not, it spands a few months during the book, but I love how she wrote it. She had some of their meetings they had were told to us as replaying the memories in their minds, or talking about a phone call they had. I felt it was fun and different to do it that way!
God was woven throughout this story, in themes of healing, forgiveness, finding your back to Him, and love.
And there is many loveable side characters including a meddling pastor's wife, who is bubbly and caring, she pushes these two together and it totally worked! I loved her character as well as all the rest who played a part in the story. Such a beautiful story!
The Narrator was also amazing, she does an amazing job of bringing the characters to life in your mind! And even giving a distinction between which characters are talking. So good! The emotions she inflects is perfect, if their laughing you can tell, if their sad you can tell. There's even a part in this book that a character sang a little song, and instead of just reading it, she sang it exactly how I imagine the character would've, full of joy!
Beautiful Story!

Martha Fouts delivers a charming story that blends meet cute firefighter with daydreaming baker, all served up with a dollop of real life vulnerability, wrapped in a comforting message.
And the audiobook? Perfection. The narrator’s voice fits the tone of the story. She brings the characters to life without overdoing it, making the listening experience feel like you’re sitting across the table from a good friend who’s just telling you a lovely story.
The romance is clean, so yes, your mom and your pastor can listen in, but that doesn’t mean it lacks emotional depth. The characters feel real, flawed, hopeful, and growing in their faith. It’s the kind of story that leaves you smiling.
Perfect for a quiet afternoon, a church book club, or a gift for the friend.
Well done, Martha. You’ve brewed a beautiful little story and I, for one, drank it up. The narrator? She served it just right.
