This short story is definitely mysterious and full of adventure! Serial killer Ed Hill (AKA "The Count of Montecristo") is on another deadly mission to take down a couple on the Amtrack train in New York City. Always cleverly disguised and with his murder weapons expertly concealed, he is confident again that his "007" mission will be accomplished without a hitch. Yet he ends up being up for more than he bargained for when he meets a polite but odd elderly Hindu couple sitting behind him. They're watching!...

This is a cleverly written story that has a unique blend of mystery, murder, and the supernatural all-in-one. The plot twists are thrilling, and you never see it coming! The characters' in this story are so descriptive and animated that I could picture them perfectly. There's also a fantastic and eerie plot twist at the end (this was my favorite part of the story)! Highly recommend.

I chose "The Mysterious Adventures of Mr. and Mrs. Hii" not knowing what to expect, and by Chapter 3, I was completely hooked. This book caught me off guard in the best way. It’s sharp, unsettling, and full of psychological tension. The writing is cinematic and intense—every scene feels like it's leading somewhere unexpected.
The suspense is masterfully built. The writing pulls you into Ed’s paranoia so tightly that you start questioning what’s real right alongside him. Every scene feels like it’s building toward something inevitable and terrifying. It’s gritty, mysterious, and beautifully disturbing—like a cross between a crime thriller and a ghost story. If you love characters who are flawed, haunted, and dangerous, you’ll love this.

If you're looking for a happy tale with a lovable protagonist for whom everything works out: this is not that story.

The main character is both repulsive and fascinating. He's well-developed and believable. The story unfolds with plenty of skin-crawls and goosebump moments, and leads to a highly satisfying conclusion.

The voice actor also does a fantastic job.

A very thought provoking story. It was suspenseful and at times had me laughing. I wanted to keep on reading because it was mysterious. I kept trying to figure out what would happen next. The assassin was ruthless, clever, self-satisfied, confident yet had no common sense. The couple were not like normal people from the beginning and they appeared to be quite strange even magical but scary. They apparently had something to do with the assassin even though they had never met each other. The ending was surprising and made me wonder if there are people that come to set things right, I felt that the couple had more work to do....
