Main character drives one nuts

The main character has gone from her home in Miami with her 14 yr old son to run her mother’s Souvenir shop in Nantucket because her mother has broken her arm & needs help.She plans to help for the month of December & return to Miami. She left Nantucket at 18 & only returned for her dad’s funeral in the last 10 years. Her mother makes it very clear that she’s tired & wants to retire. That would mean selling the shop. Maddie is absolutely dumbfounded about her mother doing this. Obviously the only solution would be for Maddie to take over the shop & do improvements she’s even mentioned to her mother. She can’t see the writing on the wall. Of course, there is a guy Ethan in the picture. All I can say is that 2 books & I’m done. Not hard to see how story will play out, but painfully slow getting there.
