About this listen
Through this novelized history of the Soka Gakkai - one of the most dynamic, diverse, and empowering Buddhist movements in the world today - listeners will discover the organization's goals and achievements even as they find inspiring and practical Buddhist wisdom for living happily and compassionately in today's world. The book recounts the stories of ordinary individuals who faced tremendous odds in transforming their lives through the practice of Nichiren Buddhism and in bringing Buddhism's humanistic teachings to the world. This first volume looks at events that occurred in 1960 when Soka Gakkai was first brought to North and South America from Japan. This inspiring narrative provides listeners with the principles with which they can positively transform their own lives for the better and realize enduring happiness for themselves and others.

Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things—a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: Instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others.

The Lotus Sūtra is one of the most important Mahāyāna texts and the most widely read, chanted and revered, particularly in Asian Buddhist countries, notably China and Japan. It is certainly a remarkable document, replete with the Mahāyāna characteristics of fantastical images, extraordinary appearances, magical happenings, views of time and space which are galactic in size; and pronouncements which are definite, unequivocal, practical in some areas and dependent upon a faith commitment in others.

Story
Legions of self-help authors rightly urge personal development as the key to happiness, but they typically fail to focus on its most important objective: hardiness. Though that which doesn't kill us can make us stronger, as Nietzsche tells us, few authors today offer any insight into just how to springboard from adversity to strength. It doesn't just happen automatically, and it takes practice. New scientific research suggests that resilience isn't something with which only a fortunate few of us have been born, but rather something we can all take specific action to develop.

Story
Buddhism's messages are timeless. Yet they're often obscure. How do we best uncover them? In his third Buddhist-themed book, author J.M. Walsh peels away the layers of conflicting doctrine and supernaturalism to expose the tradition's most profound and basic tenets. He does so through a carefully researched four-way conversation among a surprising cast of characters: a non-Buddhist of our time, the Buddha, and two later teachers, Nagarjuna and Nichiren. The voices of the three sages reflect Buddhist discourses and writings. Although the discussion is fictional, its content isn't entirely ...

A ripple effect of courage
I am so glad that these books are now on audiobook. I have for so long wanted to dive into the Human revolution series and I can finally do so in a way that works for ME! Daisaku Ikeda has been an incredible global leader and mentor to me. I am reading this series of books to strengthen my determination to follow in his footsteps to work towards world peace and spread Nichiren Buddhism and the practice of chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo

It is very encouraging to learn about the sincerity and earnestness of Shinichi Yamamoto. In real life he is Daisaku Ikeda. President Ikeda recently passed away and his writing about the history of the Soka Gakkai is very meaningful and a blue print for further expansion of Kosen-Rufu.
