About this listen

Driving late at night on a rural road in North Carolina in 1948, Billy Dalton sees a fiery car in the distance. He brakes, sprints to the burning vehicle, and rescues a beaten woman and a rope-bound child just before the gas tank explodes.

Later, awakening in a hospital and covered with burns, the sheriff tells Billy there was no woman, no child and no other vehicle found at the scene—only the scorched wreckage of Billy’s own car. Gradually and reluctantly, Billy accepts the story that he crashed his automobile into a tree and hallucinated the woman and the child in the trauma of the fire.

However, thirteen years later a surprise visit from a private investigator helps Billy unravel the mystery of what really happened on the night of the burning car.

A suspenseful tale of deceit, desperation, love, revenge, and redemption.

This is the third virtual narration I’ve experienced, and I have now determined that I will pass up in future titles of interest if virtually narrated. There are constant mispronunciations of words and unbelievably wrong interpretations in dialogue. Awful way to read/listen to a book.

Excellent story; engaging characters, in spite of very poor quality narration

This was an excellent story of tragedy, triumph, and redemption. I was reluctant to purchase because of the virtual voice but it turned out to be a soothing voice.
