Publisher's summary

On the Isle of Wight, a colony of survivors wakes to a world plunged into darkness. Before long, the triffids, thought safely out of the way on the mainland, attack....

In John Wyndham’s classic best seller The Day of the Triffids the world has been overwhelmed by killer plants. As the novel ends, Wyndham’s narrator scientist Bill Masen is escaping, with his wife and four-year-old son, to the Isle of Wight where a small colony of survivors is holding out. Simon Clark’s sequel picks up the story 25 years on.

The survivors are safe, for the time being at least, on their island, where they have continued efforts to combat the triffids, while also striving in various ways to build a new civilization. Elsewhere in the world, similar colonies cling to survival, while the triffids persist in their attempts to destroy humanity.

One morning Bill Masen’s son, David, now grown up, wakes to a world plunged into darkness. Now, the triffids have an advantage over humanity.

Night of the Triffids Actually About Triffids

The Night of the Triffids was a lot easier to engage in than The Day of the Triffids was for me.  Maybe that was because the book was actually written in the 21st century instead of a few years after WWII ended, or maybe it was because the story is set a lot closer to present-day (1970s) than Day's story was (same time it was written), but something made it a lot easier to keep up with and remain interested in. The titular Triffids also played a much more significant role in the plot this time around, so I felt a lot more like I was 'getting what I paid for.'  The book also addressed racial and class divides. This made it somewhat more relevant to 'the times' as well as easier to relate to, especially for me.

Horrible Story

The performance was outstanding!! I read the many negative reviews and thought it’s only under 3 hours. All the negative reviews were correct. I like to add there no way NY would bounce back that fast and back to “normal” Also, I work around military aircraft. They require LOTS of maintenance and parts. There no way a jet aircraft would still be functional after 25+ years. A small single engine, maybe. Also, his the main character fell in love so fast and so often. I don’t recommend this audio book at all.

a little unsatisfying

This book builds upon Day of the Triffids well but takes a more human oriented approach while the first book was more oriented toward the overall situation in the world and the growing trouble with Triffids. I found this book ended surprisingly soon and was a little unsatisfying in that way. It does progress through the story of Triffids however

Very Entertaining

I loved the sound effects. It was very entertaining and I liked the fact it focused more on the triffids
