About this listen

Written by clergyman/poet Henry van Dyke in 1896, The Other Wise Man begins thusly: "You know the story of the Three Wise Men of the East, and how they traveled from far away to offer their gifts at the manger-cradle in Bethlehem. But have you ever heard the story of the Other Wise Man, who also saw the star in its rising, and set out to follow it, yet did not arrive with his brethren in the presence of the young child Jesus? Of the great desire of this fourth pilgrim, and how it was denied, yet accomplished in the denial; of his many wanderings and the probations of his soul; of the long way of his seeking and the strange way of his finding the One whom he sought - I would tell the tale as I have heard fragments of it in the Hall of Dreams, in the palace of the Heart of Man...."

This one-hour audiobook contains the complete text of Henry van Dyke's original story, artfully brought to life by a colorful cast of characters under the direction of David Nevland.

Love this perspective.

This is an Outstanding production of one of my favorite expansions of a biblical text.

Classic story/w horrible narration & dramatization

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator and the corny sounding dramatization

What did you like best about this story?

I like the O. Henry story itself.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her accent was not a pleasant one. Nor was her tone of voice. Then, whenever someone spoke, there was an insertion of a male voice with the vibrato turned up. Very distracting and corny.

Did The Other Wise Man inspire you to do anything?

I love the story but I didn't finish this audio version because of the narration.

A TRUE TREASURE

I came across the Movie based upon this BEAUTIFUL, ENCOURAGING and INSPIRING Story many years ago.
The movie stared Martin Sheen and, for some reason, I remembered it as “The Fourth Wise Man”.
Since seeing the movie those many years ago, I have kept it in my heart as one of my very FAVORITES. ❤️
The Audible Version is BEAUTIFULLY Narrated and a very easy and short listen.
I’ll be enjoying this heartwarming story MANY more times❣️

too much background noise

the background music and other sounds made it hard to hear the story teller at times. the story teller did well, but I would have enjoyed it more without all the background noises.

Pick another version

The reader was fine, but the music was overpowering, the characters were read stonily, and the voice of the Lord was read all echoey and stupid. This was just awful. Find a better version.
