About this listen

This poetry collection entitled The Pains, The Regrets, The Salvation, Then The Joy Of Adolescence is about the challenges that the adolescence face in today’s world. The temptations they have to overcome on a daily basis. The temptations the adolescence of today face is what some of us didn’t face 30 or 40 years ago. Back then we did not have social media telling us how we must behave and the appearance they must have. Recently at church we prayed for teenagers who wants to take their lives. Sometimes this is due to witchcraft, some young girls and boys mostly girls have been hanging themselves. Reasons they gave where not what would cause a person to take their lives.

Though plastic surgery existed it is not like today when people can change their looks. Some people undergo plastic surgery only to regret when they suffer consequences. When we live to fulfil the desires of our flesh it is easy to sin against God our Creator and yield to the temptations of wanting to make changes to our bodies. I saw two village women probably over 40 years who used skin lightening and it damaged their faces and necks. These they did to lighten their skin now the outer layer is damaged and one sees the redishness of the inner skin. For me it was sad to see that the trends or what we called fashion in the past can be so damaging that it affects the health of a person. I do not speak from the medical point of view but from what I have observed. A teenager having a mother who indulge in this skin lightening trends can be bullied.

Drugs were not available back then like today when women sellers store their stock under their breast. Though some men raped their mothers in the past and it was kept as a family secret, today it is more rampant when some young men smoke dead people’s ash or the drug called crystal that drives a person insane to rape his own mother or grand-mother or sisters.
One can clearly see that drugs have demons that turn people into monsters. Alcohol is consumed in the street corners, at the public swimming pools, at the river dams, at the taverns, at the night-clubs and in the hired premises by teenagers, youth and adults. During matric examination there are some matriculants from rich families who rent rooms in the private house claiming to be preparing for examination. That is where they do some studying, experiencing with drugs, alcohol and immoral sex late night when they know their parents will not visit them.

A birthday party outside the home means experiments with these sinful acts. Some girls fall pregnant, some youth get infected with HIV. Some end up in ICU due overdosing with drugs. One bishop complained of youngsters having sex in the public swimming pools and dams.

Not forgetting that there are parents who buy alcohol and drink with their children. Some even smoke with their children. These are parents who claim to love their children. Obviously these are not Christians but those people who say only God can judge me. Don’t tell me how to live my life.

Some teenage boys start dating at 15 years of age. They refuse to have sex with their girl-friends who are the same age of 14 years. Girls as young as 15 years sleep with older men who are 35 years and older. They say if my teenage boy-friend does not want to sleep with me I will go for older men who are willing to. So these girls date teenagers their age and older men as well. What a life.

There are teenage boys and youth who prefer to wait until marriage. This is encouraging for a Christian.

I spoke to three 14 year old boys about writing books. All of them saw themselves in America, driving sports cars, having lots of money. Then dying young and living a legacy. Some of the poems in this book are My Burdened Heart, Can Words Dance In The Mouth, I Am A Little God, etc.
