About this listen

After spending the summer away from each other, Titus and Iolanthe (still disguised as Archer Fairfax) are eager to return to Eton College to resume their training to fight the Bane. Although no longer bound to Titus by blood oath, Iolanthe is more committed than ever to fulfilling her destiny - especially with the agents of Atlantis quickly closing in.

Soon after arriving at school, though, Titus makes a shocking discovery, one that throws into question everything he believed about their mission. Faced with this revelation, Iolanthe struggles to come to terms with her new role, while Titus must choose between following his mother's prophecies - or forging a divergent path to an unknowable future.

Sherry Thomas brings her trademark blend of dazzling magic, heartbreaking romance, and exciting action in this striking sequel to The Burning Sky.

Light Hearted and Fun - Need More Spunk

I was anxiously awaiting this sequel. It took me quiet a bit to get into the back and forward flow of the book and although it was somewhat predictable it was no less enjoyable. There were nice surprises, characters coming into their elements and some twists to the story. Book was lighthearted, fun and entertaining. Not sure that I could go through the flashing forward and back again.

Well written, imaginative, unexpected plots.

Very good character development. I'm now a fan. Really enjoying this trilogy. Thomas creates a good mix of magical and non-magical geography.

don't like the triangle romance. not a big fan of the split timeline either but it was okay.

AWSOME BOOK 2!!

Wonderfully written! I was totally engrossed in the book again. The characters were so well fleshed out that even though I knew it was a fantasy, the characters and the story took me on a wonderful journey that I was loathe to leave. Now I NEED book 3.

A very good and thrilling book two.

This was a very good and thrilling second book of the series.

I enjoyed the continuation of Titus and Iolanthe's journey to defeat the Bane. In this story nothing seemed to really be as it appeared. Friendships and destinies were all questioned.

The flow of this story was very different then what I am used to, and while I do not feel it necessarily took anything away from the story itself, it was definitely an adjustment at first.

I enjoyed the magic and uncovered secrets, and the little bit of romance thrown into this story. There were a few sad moments, and a few things I didnt see coming. But all in all it was a very good book and I look forward to reading the next in hopes that the good guys, and girl, will win.

An Excellent Trilogy so far

Though this series was written and recorded some time ago (7 years ago as of this review), it has restored my faith in fictional writing. I love the world building, the pacing and both protagonists. I especially appreciate the handling of the female lead. She is strong without being overbearing. She is young and optimistic without being sappy or silly. She is intelligent and practical.

I don’t normally like YA novels, because I am too old to be intrigued by the stereotypical tropes. This series manages to accomplish giving the reader that youthful hope and blush of young love, yet ground it in reality by having the leads understand the unfair weight of the world that has been placed on their shoulders.

The narration is also superb. It drew me into the story, and took me on a ride. I didn’t want to stop listening, not even when the story ended.
