About this listen
An outlaw plowman falsely accused of murder
An alchemist's virgin who is more than she seems
A fiendish murderer hiding in open sight
Cathar country, (now) southern France, year: 1200.
When the woodcutter's only daughter is murdered, the bailiff tries to arrest Bertwoin the Plowman, who flees to a master alchemist and his professional virgin, Flowia, for help.
Bertwoin must find the brutal killer while the grieving woodcutter, the relentless bailiff, and righteous monks pursue him. His search for clues takes him to the corpse room inside an abbey, to a torture pit near the Devil’s Doorstep, and to the accursed home of a heretic priest.
When monks capture him, wily Flowia rescues Bertwoin from the Bishop’s dungeon and hides with him where no one would think to look for them.
To save his own life and another life as precious as his own, Bertwoin must outwit this sadistic killer who hunts them . . . and who knows how to find them.

The concept of zombies has evolved dramatically over time, rooted in various cultural beliefs and folklore. The earliest instances of the undead can be traced back to ancient civilizations, where tales of the dead returning to life were often linked to spiritual beliefs and the fear of the unknown.

More parodies have been written targeting Sherlock Holmes than anyone else dead or alive, fictional or real. James M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, started it all back in the early 1890's and Sherlockian parody has been coming out regularly ever since, right into the age of the internet. While Sherlock's creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle lived, close to 400 appeared in Britain and America.

Most of the successful private prospectors who’d struck it rich during the California and Nevada gold rushes during the mid- to late-1800s, had journeyed westward with a specific plan from which they never deviated. Upon achieving their pre-defined goals, they packed up and returned to their original homes in distant regions of the United States. There were also plenty of others, who’d been unable to pull the plug after striking it rich, believing their lucky streak to be a never-ending one.

Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

Engaging medieval mystery
This book is a suspenseful mystery set in Medieval France. The story is well written and scenes and characters so well described The reader is transported into the story. There are murders, intrigue, sinister cultish characters, false clues and the plowman trying to navigate everything and prove his innocence. A lot of twists and turns that have one on the edge of their seat. The narrator was excellent. I received a free audiobook code for my honest review.

Medieval Murder Mystery
This is a very good start to this Series. A murder mystery set in medieval times, with all the problems of dealing with high positioned officials. This is a very believable setting and the murderer is a very depraved human being. Narrator does a Great job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline.

A Powerhouse of a Debut!
E.A. Rivière is going to go places! I never even knew medieval murder mystery was a thing, but here it is! And so well done! The character development, the unfolding storyline, the gentle misleading clues that make you THINK it's one person...and then the gut punch when you find out! I feel like I'm there with the common folk, being looked down on by nobles, and priests, and lawmen, and working my fingers to the bone just to scrape by every day. The narrator turned shades of grey into vivid color. Well done!

Interesting Storyline
This was different then what I normally read. Lots of religious references, I didn't like all the talk about beating woman but I do understand why the author put that in to complete the story. Overall it was good. I don't think I'd read book 2.

Slow Start But So Good Once It Got Going
So, for me, this was a bit of a slow start as I was familiarizing myself with the era and cast. Once the story got going though, it definitely captured my interest and had me speeding along trying to figure out this Medieval Who Dunnit! Definitely worth stepping out of your comfort zone to give this a try.
**Not Really A Spoiler-- the second book is even better! Looking forward to experiencing the 3rd!
