About this listen

In a country divided between humans and witchers, Venus Stoneheart hustles as a brewer making illegal love potions to support her family.

Love potions are a dangerous business. Brewing has painful, debilitating side effects, and getting caught means death or a prison sentence. But what Venus is most afraid of is the dark, sentient magic within her.

When an enemy’s iron bullet kills her mother, Venus’s life implodes. Keeping her reckless little sister, Janus, safe is now her responsibility. When the powerful Grand Witcher, the ruthless head of her coven, offers Venus the chance to punish her mother’s killer, she has to pay a steep price for revenge.

The cost? Brew poisonous potions to enslave DC’s most influential politicians in order to pass legislation that will protect witchers for years to come.

As Venus crawls deeper into the corrupt underbelly of her city, the line between magic and power blurs, and it’s hard to tell who to trust … herself included.

The Poisons We Drink is a potent debut about a world where love potions are weaponized against hate and prejudice, sisterhood is unbreakable, and self-love is life and death.

Literally a ride from beginning to end. Great juxtaposition to modern societal issues while still allowing the listener an escape from the right/left drama.

Excellent Story!

I really enjoyed the description of characters and the universe. I really thought it added to world building information about the Witcher community at

Good points , I like to spend my credits on longer reads .i think the plot was a little hard to get into but it all made sense in the end. I enjoyed the concept . You get to grow and go on a journey with several characters
The bad .. referring to a single person as them/they super annoyin and confusing . I didn’t know why this character was refer like that because there was no foundation behind it so it took me longer to catch on. From the intro I thought this was going to be a more explosive it fell short in that sense. Overall good

Good with the bad

The story and world building was stellar, the progression kept me engaged, plenty of twisty plotlines but not too overwhelming. Narration was amazing!! All of the characters had unique voices and the dialogue was full of emotion.

Sure, here's the revised text:

"I would consider it one of those books that demand your full attention while reading. You have to stay focused because every detail is important to the storyline. Aside from that, the book was excellent, and I didn't even notice how long it was. The narrator did a fantastic job. I highly recommend checking it out."

Magic if course

I was hooked from the first chapter. The characters are uniquely written. They captivate you and draw you into a world of magic, love, and... I will let you fill in the blanks. It is a must-read!!

The last half of this book picked me up by my scalp and threw me around. It took me a while to really get into the story, there seemed to be so many moving parts. But once the pieces started to click together for me I was enthralled.

Intense

I was anticipating this and it didnt disappoint storywise, the worldbuilding was great, and the characters enjoyable...
What I didn't like was some of the characters' motivations, decisions or actions that sounded wild considering their situation, and those are skipped over or never addressed... And IT's storyline wasn't satisfying at all because if you weigh the pros and the cons of using/not using IT in some of the situations V finds herself in, it just makes you wonder why she never befriended it in the first place... for a brewer she should know about making lemonade out of lemons but... regardless of that, storywise, V kinda achieves the same result as if they worked their way to an agreement, so it feels a bit disconnected.
All in all, the story was enjoyable...
