About this listen
Ghosts get stuck sometimes.
Franklin helps them move from this world to the next. Sometimes that means giving a ghost a ride so they can confront their killer. Other times, it means listening to the wind in his fields and the trucks blowing down the interstate and hearing the songs a ghost needs to sing.
Generally, Franklin happily does whatever a ghost needs. It's his duty.
Then Gloria shows up. She wants Franklin to steal the crop of his rival, Karl - they compete every year at the Kentucky State Fair for the blue ribbon prize for who grows the best popping corn.
Franklin's no thief. His mama taught him better.
But something else is out there, hiding in the fields. Something much worse than a ghost.
A creature that's not interested in stealing crops, but in taking people's lives and powers.
A thing that Franklin and his family must stop.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Pretty good!
This book was pretty good except for the narrator made Franklin sound a lot like Forrest Gump! Haha. That was kind of hard to get past at first, but I got use to it. This genre is right up my alley and has a bit of the paranormal and mystery mixed in, just how I like it! It's definitely worth listening to. I will read more from this author for sure.

Entertaining
This was a good story with a steady pace and a few scary moments. The narrator did an excellent job with the voices. I would not have chosen the way the main character spoke but I suppose that was how the author intended it to be. Other than that it was entertaining.

This book wasn't for me
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend this book to the younger generation, it felt like it was a juvenile book.
Has The Popcorn Thief turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. I'm open to books of most genre's.
How could the performance have been better?
The performance could've been better had the narrator not read it like it was a slow Sunday afternoon.
Do you think The Popcorn Thief needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No. All the questions were answered and no one's history was left a mystery.
Any additional comments?

The Popcorn Thief
Any additional comments?
The Popcorn Thief, narrated brilliantly by Michael Gilboe,is an interesting story of a man obsessed with his popcorn crop. This man and many of his 'kin' have special abilities, like seeing ghosts,or spirits...which we learn are NOT the same thing.Franklin is in a popcorn rivalry with a neighbor and his ghost friends are not making it any easier.People are turning up dead and poor Franklin gets framed...by ghosts. Will he be able to prove he's innocent?Give a listen and find out!"I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via AudiobookBlast or MalarHouse dot com"

It was a interesting story
I felt the narrator did Not do the story justice, his voice was just to boring and I nearly fell asleep several times because of that.
I believe with the right narrator this story could have really poped.

To Vanquish a Whirlwind Demon
Where does The Popcorn Thief rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
In the upper two thirds.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Popcorn Thief?
When Franklin's neighbor Karl actually sees the whirlwind demon and they ally and join forces to battle the demon
Which character – as performed by Michael Gilboe – was your favorite?
Franklin. Franklin comes across as a Forrest Gum however he actually is a Columbo investigator.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No extreme reactions. Franklin's closeness to his family, community and his ethics were refreshing.
Any additional comments?
Superficially Franklin appears to be a dull witted Forrest Gump fellow however he is actually more of a Columbo type intelligent skilled investigator. He has high ethics and personal honor. His love is growing and exhibiting popping corn. His main rival is his neighbor Karl who always beats him with his popping corn at the fair.
Franklin has a supernatural gift. He see ghosts and helps ghost move on. His cousin who also has a supernatural gift is murdered by a whirlwind demon who feeds on competition and opposition. This whirlwind demon is murdering people who have special paranormal gifts.
It takes a lot to convince the sheriff that he is dealing with a whirlwind demon and Franklin is almost killed by the demon.
It will take love to destroy the demon.
This was an enjoyable and interesting book and Franklin is a unique likable character. I will be looking foreword to other books in this series.

good fruits of good earth
Ghosts get stuck sometimes. Franklin helps them move from this world to the next. Sometimes that means giving a ghost a ride so they can confront their killer. Other times, it means listening to the wind in his fields and the trucks blowing down the interstate and hearing the songs a ghost needs to sing. Generally, Franklin happily does whatever a ghost needs. It's his duty. Then Gloria shows up. A creature that's not interested in stealing crops, but in taking people's lives and powers. A thing that Franklin and his family must stop.
Although there are just enough scary things to prickle the back of your neck, this is a gentle and charming fantasy. The author, wisely, does not revel in the horrific. Instead, she treats the supernatural in a down-home, accepting and almost casual way. Some folks are special. Some can track what they want to hunt. Some can see ghosts, and some can see spirits (not the same thing), and some can see lay lines. Usually these knacks are put to positive use, and everyone and everything benefits.
Until, something is created that upsets the balance of this good land, and then those with special gifts and those who don’t even believe in such things must work together in the face of very real, and tangible danger.
The author tells her tale with sensitivity and humor, and her characters are lovingly and charmingly developed. It is a wonderful read, even if it makes me yearn for really *good* pop corn, slathered, not in the purest lard, but the richest butter.
This book makes a point which is not new, certainly, but the author also makes a specification of that point that is extremely thought provoking, which makes this book not just fun, but of value, as well.
The narrator gives his usual impeccable performance. He has all his skills down pat, but the thing that struck me with this book is that, in addition to his excellent pacing, phrasing character voicing and perfect pronunciation, he has a wonderful way with dialect. His characters *sound* like they come from Kentucky, and he presents their speech patterns with ease and absolute naturalness.
I give both book and narrator 5 out of 5 stars.
