About this listen

Andree de Jongh (Dedee) is a real WWII 25 year old heroine who was miffed of her country's (Belgium) abdication to Hitler. She vows to find a way to escort downed British and later American fliers out of Europe and back to England via the Pyrenees and Gilbraltar.

With unbelievable courage, bravery and wit, she forms an escape route called the Comete Line with the help of friends and volunteers. Even though the Gestapo has targeted her and her associates, she defies them at every turn and her Line becomes the most successful escape system in the entire war.

She is finally captured and sent to Ravensbruck Concentration Camp where she continues to foil the Gestapo while helping others. Finally, nearly starving, she is rescued by Count Bernadotte and his White Buses. After recovering she is asked to come to England where she is decorated by King George.

Riddled with thrilling scenes, Dedee's story is a true account of her life during the war. As very little has been published about her, the author has brought her to life so the listener can feel her emotional story.

A great story that I hadn't heard of before

Andree De Jongh was just a normal woman but found that she could not stand by and watch American and British pilots be thrown into prison camps. She did something about it and paid a huge price. This story is well told and narrated well. I am glad that I found out about it on the audio book, Masters of the Air. Well worth the money.
