Critic reviews

Praise for The Power of a Half Hour

“Before reading this book, I never thought of seeing 30 minutes as a power-packed opportunity to improve my life. Pastor Barnett's half hour power principles have helped me strengthen my faith, become more productive, and connect with those I love with more intentionality. This book is as inspirational as it is practical, and I plan to use it as an integral part of my staff development program.”
— Lysa TerKeurst, New York Times bestselling author and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries

“Tommy Barnett inspires people to be bold witnesses and fulfill Christ’s commission. He accomplishes much for the kingdom. After reading this dynamic book, you’ll understand why. His concept of ‘thirty minutes’ can help you make the most of each day—in many areas—and enable you to have a positive influence on others.”
— James Robison, founder and president, LIFE Outreach International

Not What I Wanted

This book is probably a great fit for some people, but not for me. I only made it thru the first 2 chapters, so maybe it becomes what I wanted it to be, but I didn't want to continue to find out. I was looking for specific help in managing my life in half hour blocks--an interesting idea. It was more philosophical--examples of how the author's life has changed for better or worse in 30 minutes. It also spoke alot about the idea of finding God's purpose for you and, although I believe in and work on that, I didn't want that from this book. You may like it alot, but it just wasn't for me.

Be productive for the Lord

Please note - this is not a 'productivity' book in the sense of books by Brian Tracy and others but a book on setting aside time to do the work of the Lord, spend time with the Lord, and be 'productive' in the little things of life. Rather than spend time wasting it a non-renewable resource, spend it wisely.

Tremendous book and it isn't a book that you read one time and put on the shelf or if kindle reader, delete from your Kindle. At the end of the book is a summary for group study and/or self-study. A few take aways: 1. Risk for the Lord and trust in Him over self - very obvious but when you see how the Lord has moved in the Barnett's family and in those who they touched, it becomes very real. 2. Be diligent with thirty minutes 3. Start the day with the Lord - we all know this, but too often something interferes with our quiet time. If you cannot be alone first thing, then on your commute, turn off everything including audio books, music, etc 4. To quote Joyce Meyer, "If you apply these principles, they will bring renewed purpose and inspiration to your life."

I started listening to this book on a plane and found it so inspiring and challenging that I bought the audible book and have thoroughly enjoyed listening to such practical and insightful wisdom about how I invest my time everyday

Not very helpful.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

"A whole new life of fruitfulness" The write up made this book a let down...this read is not as remarkable and insightful as I had hoped. The story is rather mundane and not what I though it would be.

Would you be willing to try another one of Van Tracy’s performances?

Sure. Nice voice and the performance was fine...material was listless.
