Story
The Eastern Christian tradition is filled with theological and spiritual riches. In Passions of the Soul, Rowan Williams opens up the great classics of Eastern Christian writing to show how it can help us to understand and cope with the ups and downs of modern life. With compelling and illuminating insight, he shows the cost of living in a culture that is theologically and philosophically undernourished, working with a diminished and trivialized picture of the human self.

Story
How do we acquire this mind of Christ and where is it to be found? For the Orthodox Christian, salvation is the acquisition of this mind of Christ which is to be found in the Church. This acquisition moves us from the image of God to the likeness of God; through our obedience to this call we begin to know God and this knowledge is eternal life (John 17:3). This small book hopes to begin to answer how acquiring the mind of Christ is possible and why it is necessary in our lives today.

Spirituality is meant to awaken the Higher Self who guides us onto a road of purpose, fulfillment and service. Why are modern Christians so indistinguishable from everyone else? How come Christians who lived in times of bloody persecution were so heroic, while we who live in safety are not? How could the first Christians fast valiantly, but we feel deprived without dessert? How did New Testament believers pray without ceasing? How could the early Christian martyrs actually forgive their torturers? What did the Christians of the first centuries know that we don't? This book explores these questions.

Story
Where in the contemporary world can Christians find counsel based on the teachings of the early Church? This book provides instructions from some of the greatest saints of the Orthodox Church, including St. Seraphim of Sarov, St, John of Kronstadt, and St. John Climacus, among others. The teachings focus on prayer, acquiring the Holy Spirit, struggling with sin, and controlling the tongue, to name a few. Each chapter gives a brief account of the saint’s life, followed by his teachings on a particular topic. The chapters can be read in one sitting, making it an ideal devotional book.

An amazing book I almost did not finish
This book provides spiritual insights that, rather than watered-down theology so prevalent today, bring the reader into the spiritual roots of Christianity through the Jesus prayer.
The use of AI to narrate the work was a big mistake. I almost didn't finish the book because the narrator program was so awful. The writers and publishers should have invested in a human narrator rather than a second-rate AI program. I fear many people will be turned off by the AI narrator and walk away from the book missing out on all it has to offer.
