Publisher's summary

From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes a new story in her Wicked series....

She’s everything he wants....

Cold. Heartless. Deadly. Whispers of his name alone bring fear to fae and mortals alike. The Prince. There is nothing in the mortal world more dangerous than him. Haunted by a past he couldn’t control, all Caden desires is revenge against those who’d wronged him, trapping him in never-ending nightmare. And there is one person he knows can help him.

She’s everything he can’t have....

Raised within the Order, Brighton Jussier knows just how dangerous the Prince is, reformed or not. She’d seen firsthand what atrocities he could be capable of. The last thing she wants to do is help him, but he leaves her little choice. Forced to work alongside him, she begins to see the man under the bitter ice. Yearning for him feels like the definition of insanity, but there’s no denying the heat in his touch and the wicked promise is his stare.

She’s everything he’ll take....

But there’s someone out there who wants to return the Prince to his former self. A walking, breathing nightmare that is hell-bent on destroying the world and everyone close to him. The last thing either of them needs is a distraction, but with the attraction growing between them each now, the one thing he wants more than anything may be the one thing that will be his undoing.

She’s everything he’d die for....

A little more to the story

I am a huge fan of JLA and how she does spinoffs of a given series with an alternate set of main characters, and so I really enjoyed this story for that reason.

Worth reading this series

I read the Wicked series and wasn’t sure if these books would be worth reading but they didn’t disappoint! Best read after reading the first 3 books in the first series.

Ivy is that you?!

Great novella/spin off, however, I found myself forgetting Brighton was Brighton and not Ivy most of the time. The attitudes are fairly similar and at first she had a thick accent (which is what reminded me it wasnt Ivy haha), and then it would come and go... then it was non-existent. The Brighton from the original trilogy seemed way way different. But alas, still a very good story. Moving onto "The King" now.

One of the Best novella's I've ever read

I have always struggled with the ideas of novella's as I had not experienced one that did the original stories any justice but Jennifer definitely delivered on this one

Didn't love it

I love JLA books! Thought I had read them all and found this one and felt like I had to read it. The Wicked saga was one of my all time favorites so I couldn't wait to read it. I really didn't love it at all. The narrator has a weird annoying voice where she drags out the end of every sentence and you feel like a a robot is talking. The story was just lacking the usual build up between the two characters. Brighton was just plain boring compared to Ivy. The prince had absolutely no personality at all. I just felt like I couldn't wait for it to be over. Then I thought this was a novella? a standalone book? Nope, there's 3 in this series. I can't continue though. Not loving it.

I love the book. I hate that it ended the way it did. I was waiting for more. I was wanting for more. I wish that there was another book following this one. this was so good.

Loved the book, not the narrator

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this because I wasn’t so wild about the last book in the Wicked series. That being said, I loved this novella! I cannot wait to read The King to find out what happens next. The chemistry between Brighton and Caden was off the charts and I loved all of their interactions.

This book 100% has a cliffhanger and a pretty big one at that, so read or listen to it with that in mind.

On to the narrator. I feel terrible saying this, but the narrator is awful. I turned up the speed to 1.25 which definitely helped, but there were moments where I honestly thought her voice was computer generated. The male voices she did, especially Tink’s voice, made me cringe. Everything was just so monotoned and lacked a lot of emotion. Honestly, I’m not a big fan of any of the narrators of JLA’s books.

Even with that, I still enjoyed the book. I definitely recommend it if you want more from the Wicked world!
