About this listen

Nearly all of us want to be more productive, but finding the method that works for you among the hundreds and hundreds of different tips, tricks and hacks can be a daunting prospect. After graduating college Chris Bailey decided to dedicate a whole year to doing just that - experimenting with as many of the techniques as he could and finding the things that work.

Among the experiments that he undertook are going several weeks on little to no sleep; cutting out caffeine and sugar; taking a daily siesta; living in total isolation for 10 days; stretching his workweek to 90 hours; and getting up at 5:30 every morning, all the while monitoring the impact of his experiments on the quality and quantity of his work. The results were often surprising!

This audiobook is the result of Chris' year-long journey, distilling the lessons he learned into a few core truths about how we get things done (or, indeed, don't). Among the many counterintuitive insights Chris discovered that had the biggest impact on his productivity were striving for imperfection, scheduling less time for important tasks, the 20 second rule to distract yourself from distractions, and the concept of productive procrastination.

In this accessible and fun guide, Chris Bailey offers over 30 tried and tested best practices that will help everyone to accomplish more - and become more awesome.

Great book but for narrator catching his breath

This is a great book and the author has a pleasant voice. However I find the author/narrator's tendency to audibly catching his breath between sentences very distracting almost as if he is running out of breathe. Other than this I thoroughly enjoyed the book which is one of the best book on productivity.

Most complete and simple

It is the single most complete productivity book I have ever read. However, you need to study the subject of Productivity for some time to fully understand the insights of this work. Congratulations to the author

The best book on productivity!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be more productive by adopting a doable, realistic, incremental plan. I loved that all the advice the author offered were tried by him and he is reflecting on his own experience and on the things that worked for him and probably will work for the reader. I liked the book to the extent that I really want to get the printed version of this book too.

Useful and motivational (but a bit unrealistic?)

If this book is read constantly keeping in mind the differences between the author's life situation and your own and then applied selectively (choosing what you, personally, can apply in your own life taking into consideration the restrictions and opportunities you have), then you will probably benefit from it greatly.

The main issue with this book is that Bailey took a year off of everything so experiment with productivity. Plus, he made his own schedule. Not everyone has the luxuries he had during this time. Therefore, not all of his tips are equally as feasible, realistic, or applicable in everyone's life. Nevertheless, if you select one tip at a time and start implementing it slowly, I think they can greatly improve your life. I have been implementing a great many of them the last couple of years (obviously, prior to reading this book) and stand by what he says. Still, we should all know our capabilities and limitations (and maybe push them a bit as well).

All in all, the book is practical and very easy to read. The most useful parts are the challenges he lists at the end of each chapter that motivate you to really apply what he explained throughout the text.

My favorite book so far

This book and Chris Bailey have changed my life. I heard it entirely while driving the first time, and I thought the ideas were interesting and worth paying deeper attention. I dediced then to consider this audiobook a course, and listened to it again but this time when seating in my computer and taking notes of anything I found interesting or worth learning. I took about 3-4 days per chapter, usually listening each a couple times, and always devoted fully to the proposed challenges

After 4 months of listening the book for the first time, I feel a completely different person. My productivity has shot through the roof, my self discipline has improved alongside, and I'm that much more happier too. I think it's worth noting that Ive adopted all but 2 tactics proposed in this book, because they do work as promised by Chris.

I can't recommend this book enough. in my opinion, this should be a mandatory read in all schools. Learning how our minds work in such a practical way, for then taking advantage of this knowledge to flip around our procrastination and negative self talk cannot be passed on.

Chris, you are now a personal hero. Thank you

Gold for productivity junkies

I absolutely loved this audiobook from start to end. I got so much value out of it! I love the idea of “a year of productivity” and jotted down lots of ideas that inspired me throughout the chapters. I also love the way he reads! This audiobook is such a gem! Thank you for your service, Chris Bailey! 🙏🏼
