About this listen

Almustafa has been exiled in the island city of Orphalese for twelve years when he sees his ship coming with the mist. Before he sets sail, the beloved prophet is asked by his followers to impart his truth. In these twenty-eight poetic essays, he offers profound inspiration on such matters of love and friendship, freedom and self-knowledge, joy and sorrow, pleasure, prayer, and death. In doing so, Almustafa offers a universal serenity.

A Lebanese émigré to the United States, Kahlil Gibran wrote The Prophet to transcend the barriers between East and West and to open up new possibilities for spiritual guidance. Today it stands as one of the most beloved and translated books in history.

Revised edition: Previously published as The Prophet, this edition of The Prophet (AmazonClassics Edition) includes editorial revisions.

A perfect spiritual reading, with a perfect voice

I believe The Prophet is one of the greatest spiritual works ever written. It has become my bible. Simon Vance narrates it perfectly. I slowed the audio slightly, just to savor the wonderful words a little more.

Excellent version

Simon Vance has the best voice for the classics. His pace and emphasis makes the prose understandable, and enjoyable, and provides the depth this work deserves!

Beautiful Wisdom

"The Prophet" offers 26 chapters of wisdom from a fictional prophet about to depart the city of Orphalese. The residents ask him to discuss various aspects of life, and he answers them in prose poetry. The book is beautifully written and Simon Vance does it justice in his narration for this audiobook.

It's worth listening to at least thrice, a day that is.... The immensity of the truth(s) it contains.... classic.... may have to buy the tangible book just in case....
