About this listen

Tommy Parker has gone missing. After his parents turn up dead, it's up to his only friend, Jake, alongside Jake's older brother, Gus, to find him and bring him back home. However, when Jake reveals the truth about Tommy's abusive father and what really happened to his parents, Gus must make a life-changing decision: bring Tommy to justice, or do what he believes is right?

I can't say enough good things about this short western story. In just forty-nine minutes, it packs a punch. From a law abiding family, Jake is best friends with Tommy Parker, not just his BEST friend, but his ONLY friend. And he has the battle scars to prove it. When the law is called to Tommy Parker's house, Gus, Jake's older brother rushes there ahead of them to find a bloody mess. Looking for his brother, Jake, he finds Tommy's dad, dead and his mother slashed to death as well. And no sign of Tommy or Jake. The story that unfolds is a heartbreaking one of abuse, but also one of loyalty and hard decisions. Don't miss this extraordinary tale of courage and friendship.

Well written, well read! As a long-time fan of Westerns, I'm always delighted to find a new author of this genre. The Protectors features complex and likable characters caught in a tough ethical dilemma. Without giving the ending away, I'll say it was most satisfying. This would be a book for YA readers, but also for adults. Jamie Renell read it beautifully. I'll be on the lookout for more books by P. Jo Anne Burgh.
