About this listen

Desk jockey Artie Lacks prefers the comfort of his couch to cosmic adventures. But when an inexplicable ethereal choir propels him into an interdimensional conflict over an ancient artifact known as "The Oracle," his life takes--to put it mildly--an unusual turn. He soon learns Crutherford Wenchworth, a cantankerous ninety-year-old mercenary, and his murderous "Crunchers" are on a generations-long chase for the Oracle. Unfortunately for Artie, no amount of bloodletting will quench their desire for ultimate power.

For the psychonauts, time, space and reality are malleable... with the help of some long-expired CIA drugs.

JULY 4TH 1975 - Fifty years ago, a chaotic shootout leaves the Oracle in the unwitting possession of an amnesiac rock star and an over-the-hill CIA agent who just wants a Mai-Tai. Before they can make it to happy hour, they discover a chilling prophecy: Earth is doomed to be destroyed in exactly 50 years.

FIFTY YEARS LATER - The Oracle reappears at a lavish party. Chaos erupts. Wenchworth storms in. Artie is forced, along with the well-meaning Penelope Paxton and the mobile dog-dining mogul SlobDog Millionaire to flee into the psychedelic Astral Plane, where these mismatched mind-venturers uncover a startling truth about humanity.

Guided by a former CIA psychonaut and an aging musician, Artie navigates the bizzare dimensions outside of our own and is unexpectedly thrust into Galactic Federation space, where a new understanding of everything he knows waits.

On Earth, Wenchworth dreams of declaring himself a tyrannical Emperor Supreme and unleashing an ancient weapon on all life, everywhere. As for his charming second-in-command, Karen Krazerback, well, she just likes "killin' and spittin'".

Transformed by his bizarre odyssey, the once-schlubby Artie, aided by Penelope and SlobDog, must fulfill his destiny, confronting true evil in a desperate, galaxy-saving battle to prevent universal annihilation and reawaken to his true calling, discovering hope in the darkness of his mind's vast labyrinth, and embarking on an interstellar journey of improbable, accidental heroism.

It's a journey that may well propel him, and the galaxy, to their ultimate fate… or maybe just back to the couch.
