Jerrold Partington and Cassie Young met under quite unique circumstances. Jerrold had just been interviewed and selected by representatives of a special consortium of universities wishing to award a collective grant for the study and development of merging virtual reality and artificial intelligence with hypnosis. And Cassie Young had been among three applicants selected to be interviewed for the position of research assistant, who would be selected the following day by the newly named chief researcher.
In the midst of this chaotic chain of events, they happened to meet in a tavern the evening before, and there was a mutual spark of interest between them. In the following day, when the interviews took place, it was Cassie who was clearly the best choice to team up with Dr. Jerrold Partington at the newly established research facility on the outskirts of Dallas Texas.
Starting from scratch, except for being able to use the most highly developed virtual reality and artificial intelligence programs available, they began to work with test subjects to evaluate the feasibility of such a project.
Jerrold would use hypnosis to prepare the test subjects to enter what he referred to as “the realm” the artificial environment. Meanwhile, Cassie would help them prepare by obtaining from them important bits of information regarding the environment and events they sought to experience.
The goal of the project was to leave the test subjects with the impression that their experience had been as vivid as a memory of something that had actually taken place. The experimentation and testing was going well, but in the midst of it all, Cassie confided to Jerrold that she dealt with extreme issues of anxiety, and in a moment of embarrassed candor, confided to him that she had found out in her late teens that experiencing corporal punishment and the pain that came with it the provided her with a distraction from her anxiety that had some significant effects of relief.
Not only does that begin to add to the blossoming romance, but Cassie, with Jerrold’s approval, decides to try experiencing carefully choreographed sessions of corporal punishment in “the realm”.
