Very Good, As Always

This book was interesting entertaining, and insightful as always. I can't pinpoint why it wasn't one of the two or three all-time favorites in the Mme Rmatwse saga, perhaps only that two or three al-time favorites can't extend to all. it was a good read, well-worth the time put into listening and learning.

A nice read

This is an enjoyable, albeit, predictable continuation of the McCall Smiths series about Botswana. And, it is an excellent conclusion to all that has gone before. Well worth my one credit.

Ever delightful human philosophical tales

Any additional comments?

I have been a fan of this series for many years and realized from the beginning that hearing these stories was a bigger treat than reading them. I'm American; I don't automatically know how to pronounce even the simple African words like Mma. Stumbling on that, even in my mind, reduces my pleasure in the story. McCall-Smith's idiosyncracies of language, carrying from book to book, are like old friends. For example, Mma Makutsi will never comfortably be Grace to us, or even Mma Rhadaputi now that she's married. I was also happy the 'tiny white van' made a reappearance in this story. This book was very much about the interpersonal relationships of the main characters and the obligations therein than most of these stories. Even the detectives' main case was very much about honoring personal commitments and responsibilities. As always, reading a #1 Ladies Detective Agency story is more about philosophy that it is about mystery.

Up to his usual standard

Would you consider the audio edition of The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party to be better than the print version?

Absolutely, the narrator is wonderful and brings the characters alive. It wouldn't be the same without Lissett Lacat. Even when I occasionally purchase a print version of this series I hear her voice as I read it.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters are really well developed and always true to type. Ma Ramatsu's wisdom is simple and wonderful. No wild car chases, no gratituous sexual content...just a really nice story that takes you far from the world in which we live.

What does Lisette Lecat bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She truly brings the characters to life. Her accent is perfect!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The wedding and the reflection of the history of the characters

Any additional comments?

It did seem as though this might be the last in the series. I hope not as they have become much like old friends whom you can check in on occassionally.

The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party

Prudence proved to be far moe inbalanced than Charlie...poor twins and future husband. A positive for Charlie.

My new favorite in the series

This volume 12 in the series is great for developing the characters of the mechanical apprentices Charlie and Falwell. In spite of the daily foibles, the ladies solve some interesting cases.

The narrator is outstanding. Sometimes I forgot it was one person doing the voices- they all are a bit different and recognizable.

Grace and Phuti Get Married :)

As Grace searches for the perfect shoes for her wedding, the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency is busy with a case of a farmer who is experiencing a big dilemma. Someone is killing his cows, one by one. As we ride along in the farm community, we can feel the peacefulness. As Precious remineses about her father, Obed Ramotswe (who is late) and his cattle, we can taste the bittersweetness of both loving such a great man and now living without him. It is quite ingenious how Precious finally gets to the bottom of the issue of the cows being killed. And the big tent wedding of Grace and Phuti is the culmination of a great story.
