Publisher's summary
The devil has always been an expert in marketing, but the old-fashioned way of recruiting souls just won’t work in a modern technological age. Have you ever been invited to a guest event for one of those courses? One that promises you everything? Well, you haven't been invited to this one yet. Here's the ultimate deal with the devil story - sacrilegious, disturbing, and ultimately poignant. Written by the Hugo- and Nebula Award-winning author of "The Trouble with Tribbles", "The Martian Child", "The Man Who Folded Himself", and "The War Against the Chtorr."

Story
The superhero comic books that Marvel Comics has published since 1961 are, as Douglas Wolk notes, the longest continuous, self-contained work of fiction ever created: over half a million pages to date, and still growing. The Marvel story is a gigantic mountain smack in the middle of contemporary culture. Thousands of writers and artists have contributed to it. Everyone recognizes its protagonists: Spider-Man, the Avengers, the X-Men. Eighteen of the hundred highest-grossing movies of all time are based on parts of it. Yet not even the people telling the story have read the whole thing.

"Writing is structure,” William Goldman said, but too often aspiring writers plunge into their work without grasping this fundamental principle. Story structure is one of the most important concepts for a writer to understand - and ironically, one of the least frequently taught. In this book, New York Times best-selling author William Bernhardt explains the elements that make stories work, using examples spanning from Gilgamesh to The Hunger Games.

For more than three-quarters of a century, he has cycled from a figure of darkness to one of lightness and back again; he's a bat-shaped Rorschach inkblot who takes on the various meanings our changing culture projects onto him.

Story
When Lucy Mangan was little, stories were everything. They opened up new worlds and cast light on all the complexities she encountered in this one. She was whisked away to Narnia and Kirrin Island and Wonderland. She ventured down rabbit holes and womble burrows into midnight gardens and chocolate factories. She wandered the countryside with Milly-Molly-Mandy and played by the tracks with the Railway Children.

Story
Gary Webb had an inborn journalistic tendency to track down corruption and expose it. For over thirty-four years, he wrote stories about corruption from county, state, and federal levels. He had an almost magnetic effect to these kinds of stories, and it was almost as if the stories found him. It was his gift, and, ultimately, it was his downfall.

Story
This close look at Wonder Woman's history portrays a complicated heroine who is more than just a female Superman with a golden lasso and bullet-deflecting bracelets. The original Wonder Woman was ahead of her time, advocating female superiority and the benefits of matriarchy in the 1940s. At the same time, her creator filled the comics with titillating bondage imagery, and Wonder Woman was tied up as often as she saved the world.

Story
In the years between World War II and the emergence of television as a mass medium, American popular culture as we know it was first created in the bold, pulpy pages of comic books. The Ten-Cent Plague explores this cultural emergence and its fierce backlash while challenging common notions of the divide between "high" and "low" art.

Nicolas Cage is many things, but love him, or laugh at him, there's no denying two things: You've seen one of his many films, and you certainly know his name. But who is he, really, and why has his career endured for over 40 years, with more than a hundred films, and birthed a million memes? Age of Cage is a smart, beguiling book about the films of Nicolas Cage and the actor himself, as well as a sharp-eyed examination of the changes that have taken place in Hollywood over the course of his career.

Story
When Nicholas Meyer was asked to direct the troubled second Star Trek film, he was something less than a true believer. A best-selling author and successful director, he had never been a fan of the TV series. But as he began to ponder the appeal of Kirk, Spock, et al., he realized that their story was a classical nautical adventure yarn transplanted into space and - armed with that insight - set out on his mission: to revitalize Trek.

not a bad idea
this is a wonderful idea for a story.. granted, the majority of the audiobook is a speaker (literally just him giving a speech) trying to get his audience to sign contracts to get what they want from life in exchange for their souls, but then it ends.. we do get thoughts from a married couple, but we never learn if they signed, and if they did what happened. still, like I said, it's a great idea for a story

The Seminar from Hell
This is an interesting story that has you thinking outside of the box. While it is a quick listen it does keep you engaged throughout the story. It gives an intriguing look at the ideas of Heaven and Hell trying to get people to come to their side. The title says it all it is a seminar and the speaker is from Hell. I enjoyed this short story but would have liked a longer one, I felt as soon as I got engrossed in the story it was over, which shows what a good job the author has done with this characters. Narrator Daniel Penz does a nice job of bringing this short to life keeping me entertained until the end.

...Really not my cup of tea
45 minutes into a speech and still talking about nothing, this book was quite frustrating.
