About this listen
Tradition. Temptation. Treachery.
The emperor and empress of Nantai are gone. Their youngest daughter and the chosen heir, Mairynne, is trapped between her duty to the country and the desire to find her father. The people need a new imperial leader, but Mairynne never wished for the role she inherited. She carries two soul stones, one cold and the other hot. They came to her with the loss of each parent. They now call to her, beckoning her to leave home. They reinforce her convictions . . . Her father lives. He will return to his seat upon the Serpentine Throne.
She flees from Arashi and the Serpentine Throne. For the first time, she faces the hardship of those without the comforts of the elite Storm Sorcerer caste. The city's first guard, Gensui Thalaj Northerngale travels at her side, her only companion and protector. Through the forests, across the grasslands, into trading towns, and beyond, the stones she wears around her neck draw her into new adventures. The people she meets guide her, prophecies are revealed, and she makes unlikely friends.
When the soul stones call for Mairynne to leave the shores of Nantai and journey across the dreaded Syrensea, she takes one step then another, and another still. Onward, until her travels turn into far more than the simple quest to find her father.
If you enjoy epic fantasy somewhere between N.K. Jemisin, Jacqueline Carey, and a little Sarah J. Maas, this is the series for you.

Yet he protects me. Defends me. Tells me his secrets. In front of the Court, he's the Beast, but behind closed doors he gives me the chance to choose him, or not.

Story
Born the forbidden child of two Aura, magical beings possessing god-gifted powers, she carries a burden of title. Prized a weapon of destruction by her father and hunted as a monster of carnage by others. The odds knew no favor to the wicked or kind in Numengarth, but Snowlin turned human, powerless, and a disappointment to the creator who intended to wield her in his claim for power over the continent. After twelve years disparaged into exile, she sets to return and claim what the realm owed her: revenge on both her father and the night king who hunted to take more than her life.

Story
Helliconia follows an eccentric orbit around a double-star system with a twenty-six-hundred-year cycle of very long seasons. As spring slowly breaks the brutally long winter, humans emerge from hiding and a long sequence of civilization and growth begins to repeat again, unbeknownst to the participants but watched by an orbiting satellite station, Avernus, created by Earth some centuries ago. Humans free themselves from slavery to the aboriginal Phagors, and religion and science flower and expand.

Fantastic listen
The narration and story worked so well together. Magic, romance, dragons, AND most importantly..... an intelligent MC! She knows she has faults and how she isnt always ready for things, but takes steps to better herself, bettering her kingdom by learning by them and how they can work together. So well worth the credit for 31 hours that went by way too fast.
