About this listen

Winner of the Pacific Northwest Book Association Number One Fiction Book Award for 1995, The Sky Fisherman is the poignant story of a young man coming of age in a small Oregon town. Laced with love of the great outdoors and infused with colorful local characters, this audiobook is a rich glimpse at life in the Pacific Northwest. The lives of young Culver, his twice-married mother, and his charismatic Uncle Jake are shadowed by the death of Culver’s father in a fishing accident. When a suspicious fire destroys the town mill and three murders occur, Culver and his family must fight to escape the dangers swirling around them.

Vigorous and compassionate, The Sky Fisherman announces the dawning of an important new voice in American fiction. Ed Sala’s skillful narration enlivens this complex mix of Native American spiritual beliefs, the absolute laws of nature, and quest for life’s meaning into an unforgettable piece of Americana.

A Good Book When One Has Time For A Yarn

Would you listen to The Sky Fisherman again? Why?

Maybe in a year or two. Many other favorite books are revisited in a month or two. Again, this book requires a certain frame of mind rather than a yearning for a typical novel.

Have you listened to any of Ed Sala’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

YES! The Legal Limit was a masterful performance by Mr Sala, and one I have listened to 4 or 5 times. The Sky Fisherman was also well read by Mr Sala.

Any additional comments?

This book is all about character development and local color. Nothing wrong with that save be for the fact that I found no real plot . . . . no story line or flow. It was much like reading a diary or journal. Nevertheless, I did enjoy the eclectic cast of players, and Mr Sala's narration is always the best! This book was entertaining enough, but not gripping.

The Sky Fisherman

This book, set in Oregon lacks a sense of place. Sometimes it's Jackson County, but it's also near Warm Springs. The reader is excellent, so I stayed involved.

A Wonderful "Coming of Age" Story.

This was a wonderful book. The narration was outstanding. Recommended for young adults onwards. I look forward to listening to this publication repeatedly.
