About this listen

The ideal introduction to the genius of Ernest Hemingway, The Snows of Kilimanjaro and Other Stories contains ten of Hemingway's most acclaimed and popular works of short fiction. Selected from Winner Take Nothing, Men Without Women, and The Fifth Column and the First Forty-Nine Stories, this collection includes "The Killers," the first of Hemingway's mature stories to be accepted by an American periodical; the autobiographical "Fathers and Sons," which alludes, for the first time in Hemingway's career, to his father's suicide; "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber," a "brilliant fusion of personal observation, hearsay and invention," wrote Hemingway's biographer, Carlos Baker; and the title story itself, of which Hemingway said: "I put all the true stuff in," with enough material, he boasted, to fill four novels. Beautiful in their simplicity, startling in their originality, and unsurpassed in their craftsmanship, the stories in this volume highlight one of America's master storytellers at the top of his form.(P)2008 Simon and Schuster, Inc. Two great short stories

Didn’t care too much for the middle but the 1st and last were GREAT. The last had a great unexpected ending

Amazing book

Although not my favorite, the descriptions of Africa and hunting are wonderful. The storyline was dark for me and caused me great sadness.

Genuine Hemingway!

Read by a dramatic master! Wonderful to imagine what the thrill of a big game hunt is like. Already know what an unfaithful wife is like.

👍

Classic. I enjoyed the story being an American living in Africa. He paints a realistic picture

Stories were good

These stories were pretty good, especially the last one about the lion and the buffalo. Several stories were repeated from other Hemingway books. Thanks

Extraordinary reading.

Stacy Keach, who I am proud to say I've met when he was playing Ken on "Titus" is an amiable and talented individual. Reading Hemingway, he is absolutely superb. My kids were fascinated by the stories and absorbed by Mr. Keach's telling of it. Truly sublime.

At times slow and boring

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

At the beginning I didn't know if I was listening to one story or a series of short stories. It was several short stories.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Just OK.

Could you see The Snows of Kilimanjaro and Other Stories being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Snows of Kilimanjaro is a movie already, and the movie is very slow...

Great Voice Actor

Loved this audiobook! Stories were very hard to listen to at times, just because of the content, but that more so has to do with the ability of Hemingway to be real in his storytelling without sugar coating things. But the voice actor is very good, I really liked how he read it. If anything it was tricky to know exactly who was talking at times, but he did a decent job of giving g characters different voices to help you with that. Highly recommend!
