In one of Phil Mason's many revelations, you'll learn that Communist jets were two minutes away from opening fire on American planes during the Cuban missile crisis, when they had to turn back as they were running out of fuel. Must have for a Parent or those Coaching Youth
As a sports performance Coach, I’m always looking for resources to better support young athletes, and this audiobook delivered. It provides a solid foundation for understanding early-stage player development, emphasizing growth over just winning, which I learned at a young age too and carried with me even through playing in College. I really liked how it breaks down key concepts in a way that’s practical and easy to apply in training sessions; these were particularly insightful now as a trainer because I am constantly working on ways to counter-balance repetitive movements and anti-rotation to build a more complete athlete. The insights on working with parents and managing team dynamics were especially valuable - the Coach:Parent relationship has become so delicate over time now, the insights here give you a springboard to focus on the athlete's progress and growth as a common goal. The narration kept things engaging, making it an easy listen. If you’re coaching young players, this is a great tool to add to your arsenal. I would definitely recommend this book.

A great guide
This is a great listen for new soccer coaches and parents looking to coach youth soccer, or for people who are looking to refine their approach. It teaches you how to create a supportive environment and instill mental toughness in the players and also gives practical advice for drills and rules as well so its not just entirely about mindset or the technical of the game, its both.

So glad I found this. The author really knows his stuff but doesn’t overcomplicate things. It’s straight to the point, no fluff. Just solid advice that actually makes sense. I’ve read (well, listened to) a bunch of soccer books, and a lot of them just ramble, but this one? Practical tips I could use right away. Narration was easy to follow too, which made it even better. If you’re serious about improving your game, this is worth a listen.

So helpful
This book gave me a lot of ideas and I'm 100% sure it has made me a better coach. It is difficult to keep younger kids engaged. Keeping fun as the priority with overly competitive parents in the mix is a constant battle. I now know how to handle these situations where I used to avoid those conversations before. After just a couple weeks of implementing some of the tools from this book, I feel like my players are having more fun, improving more quickly and are learning valuable life skills along the way.
