About this listen
Jane Lofton has everything she ever dreamed of: a high-powered career, a fabulous home, a wealthy husband, David, and a beautiful daughter, Brynn. Of course, David also has a new girlfriend spending his old money. Brynn also has a therapist helping her articulate her contempt for her mother. And Jane also has…
…an obligation to the Man Upstairs. A chance meeting between her BMW and an 18-wheeler prompts Jane to make a deal: let her live and she’ll dedicate herself to Doing Good. Whatever that means. Jane’s platinum-card kung fu has taught her how to spend, but not how to give—turns out it’s actually pretty hard! But when her country-club life crumbles, Jane is faced with an even bigger challenge: replacing all her dreams and salvaging her soul.
Wise, witty and relentlessly real, The Social Climber of Davenport Heights is a story about discovering the difference between what something costs…and what it's worth.

Story
Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

Story
Kidnappers grabbed Jenna in broad daylight, right in front of her children and their horrified classmates. Her family was issued an insane ransom demand: $25 million in cash and jewels, payable by the end of the school day, otherwise they’ll never see her again. As Jenna’s mother scrambles to gather the money, detectives Mo Butler and George Ortega follow the trail of the kidnappers, which will lead them through a sordid landscape of jealous lovers, broken dreamers, and twisted schemers. But every second counts, and there’s one thing Jenna Wade doesn’t have: very much time.

Thank you Mobilis for a great rec!
I bought this on a whim after reading Mobilis's review and prepared myself for disappointment. When I heard the Harlequin intro I nearly choked. Why hadn't I listened to my instincts? I mean, look at the cover--this is going to be awful!! But from the first chapter I was hooked. This is an amazingly good time without a hint of chick lit about it. Its a feel-good tale that is well narrated and well written and most of all had me dying to get back to it. It made me laugh and at one point it even made me cry. Get this if you have a spare credit, you wont regret it.

Pam, thanks again.
I needed a book to pry me out of a series I've been re-re-reading and know that you've done it before with your down to earth characters and their stories. The Social Climber of Davenport Heights did the job: I laughed, I cried, I swore at the characters a time or two, but generally wanted to be there. You definitely did it again. Rebecca from Summerville.

Taking Care of Little Things, Makes A Difference
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This was the best book for content I have heard in awhile! I purchased due to reader I.G. a.k.a. Garba Zackman. I have all of this readers books and 100 of G.Z. reads. Her males voices are my fave. She has such a rich voice and can interpret the author's intent.
Note: use new 1.25x speed to get full impact of author's humor and wisdom.
What other book might you compare The Social Climber of Davenport Heights to and why?
This was not a self help book, but it could have been. So much great wisdom in a humorous and thoughtful way. Great Book! See Dick Van Dyke, Keep Moving for the same up lifting feel this one gives.
Which scene was your favorite?
So Many great scenes! Humorous, David" Well is wasn't a Burning Bush!". Scott, when he promises to do a better job of haggling the next time. Makes you cry, finding the draw. Get a tissue.
If you could rename The Social Climber of Davenport Heights, what would you call it?
An editor needs to rename. This is a modern thought provoking and humorous book. Not chick lit, but the central character is a woman who gains wisdom. You laugh, cry and you don't want it to end. The title may have stopped others from buying it. What a waste if you miss this great read.
Any additional comments?
Audible, please put this book on the daily deal, so others can enjoy and learn. Good deeds really make you feel incredibly good, and this book was such a wonderful format to show it.

A pleasant surprise
I bought the book based on a recommendation from a friend, expecting nothing other than a pleasant few hours.
After the first half hour, though, I was completely hooked.
This book isn't about religion, per se, there's no hidden Christian message, or a message from any other religion, either.
Instead, this is a story of a selfish, greedy woman who, in the moment before she thinks she will die, promises to live a better life, to "do good", and is delivered from what would have ended as a fatal automobile accident.
The ensuing story tells how she works to transform herself, in a way that comes across as plausible and possible here in the real world.
One caveat - I expected chick-lit from this title, and I think that's how it's classed on Audible, but it's not really chick-lit; it's a little more thought-provoking than the regular, garden-variety read-for-fun fiction.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book!
I had never read any of Pamela Morsi's books before and tried Bikini Car Wash. I really enjoyed it so I looked for more of her books, I got The Social Climber of Davenport Heights. At first I was skeptical, the narrator sounded so snooty and the character was so shallow, but that's the whole idea of this story! I really enjoyed it and had to listen to the end this morning before I could start my day. I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys chic lit or contemporary romance. Very entertaining.
