About this listen
The centurion who speared Christ also guarded the tomb. When the body is missing, Pilate orders his arrest. He flees. The spear has special powers. An angel orders him to write a manuscript and hide it. He writes a second manuscript and hides it, before being captured by the Romans in Ephesus. He writes his final testimonial, then hides it along with the spear.
After an earthquake in 2030, one of the manuscripts is found by two American archeologists. A hunt for the other manuscripts and the spear takes them to Jordan, Israel, back to Turkey, and finally America. America has become very secular, and there is legislation proposed to limit Christianity in America. It will be voted upon on Good Friday. When word gets out of the found manuscripts, a chase follows. The Christians want to publish it, and the atheists and Muslims want to destroy it.

Where does The Spear of the Centurion rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I have been listening to audiobooks for years and this one ranks in the top 10.Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character is Lacy. Her faith is inspiring!Which character – as performed by R. Paul Matty – was your favorite?
Jesus.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It's a wonderful book! It renews my own faith and makes me want to go look up more information in the bible. It also makes me think twice about Artificial Intelligence!Any additional comments?
I will continue to look for more audiobooks narrated by R. Paul Matty. He's becoming one of my favorite narrators to listen to because he takes me right into the story. Love it!An Excellent Listening Experience!

I listened to the sample before purchasing this book. The speech was so slow and robotic I thought it must be a glitch. Unfortunately it was not. It was difficult to finish listening to this audio version because the narration was the worst I have experienced on Audible. I kept hoping it would improve but it did not. The narrator's rendition of the character voices was extremely inconsistent. He used slow, hoarse speech and a vexatious, distracting clearing of his throat.
I rarely feel compelled to write a review but this is a great read. I purchased the hard back version to read and I am so glad I did.
I enjoyed the creativity of this thought provoking story within a story. The meticulous historical data in this book contains details I never knew about Longinus Petronis thus giving the story a definitive attribute that draws the reader in with a desire to learn more about this centurion of Rome. Add a futuristic sci-fi twist to make this a compelling story that is hard to put down.
I would recommend this book in hardback or kindle versions. Readers who enjoy historic fiction will enjoy the learning aspect along with a glimpse into the possibility of a world unlike anything we could imagine or would want to experience.
A great read! Difficult to listen to the narrator.

What made the experience of listening to The Spear of the Centurion the most enjoyable?
LOL ... Well, as the narrator, I have much criticism regarding the performance, yet, respectful to the author, I will refrain. :)What was one of the most memorable moments of The Spear of the Centurion?
It was especially difficult to narrate the voices of such Biblical giants as occur in this work; even quoted words of our Savior. Very, very difficult. I am and remain so beneath. I can only hope I did them a respectful justice.Which scene was your favorite?
None in particular. If you could take any character from The Spear of the Centurion out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Oh, for sure .... Longinus!!! So many questions!!! :)Any additional comments?
It was truly an honor and a pleasure to narrate this work. Thom Vines' passion with history and His Word is obvious, and he clearly "did his homework," here; effectively entwining Biblical and secular history, then extrapolating a very real and scary future with his wonderfully creative genius resulting in a very contemporary, exciting, and inspirational work. Congrats, Mr. Vines!! :)Narrator/Producer ... R. Paul Matty

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I really enjoyed this story. I had many other things to do, but I put them all aside to binge through this book in 3 days. I couldn't put it down! The story is compelling, detailed, fast paced, and believable. I like to buy the text and Audiobook version and read alongside the Narration. What was one of the most memorable moments of The Spear of the Centurion?
I liked the aspect of the spear and how and when it would work and the situations where it wouldn't. Also the politics and technology, set in the future, are believable, should the current trends continue.Have you listened to any of R. Paul Matty’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Narrator was good and fit the style of the book well.If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Reminds me of Indian Jones with a biblical twistBinge-worthy. I couldn't put it down !!
