About this listen
Michael was in a hurry. He was scrambling up the ladder at Drake and Sweeney, a giant Washington law firm. He was a rising star, with no time to waste, no time to toss a few coins into the cups of panhandlers, no time for a conscience. But a violent encounter with a homeless man stopped him cold. Michael survived; his assailant did not. Who was this homeless man? Michael did some digging and found a dirty secret and the secret involved Drake and Sweeney.©1998 Belfry Holdings, Ltd. (P)2005 Penguin Audio
Michael Beck is fantastic as ever, although he exagerates the tear-squeezing voice when talking about the sadness of homelessness.
The worst though was the music suddenly appearing at ’emotional’ or ’suspenseful’ moments. Completely distracting. I laughed out loud a few times. Classical kitchy string music when relationships were talked about… bad horror film sounds when ’bad’ things happened. Cant believe who would think that enhances the story telling.
Grisham ’light’.
