the street where I live

I found this book delightful and insightful and very entertaining. It was actually really funny to hear some of the behind the scenes stories of all the Mayham and chaos that goes into making a musical great. Very enjoyable read/listen

Maybe my all time Audible favorite

I don’t know what delighted me more, AJL’s witty tale of life in the theater or David Case’s pitch perfect narration. I was sorry when it ended.

Fantastic book and narration performance!

If you love Broadway and reading about it’s history, I cannot recommend this book highly enough! Not only is it chock full of enlightening, hilarious and unforgettable anecdotes about the people involved in the making of My Fair Lady, Gigi and Camelot, the narrator is one of the very best I’ve ever listened to. He easily moves between the accents and vocal rhythms of English Rex Harrison, Austrian Fritz Lowe, Hungarian Pasquale, 100% New Yorker Moss Hart and the rest of this vast and colorful cast of characters. Not since Moss Hart’s Act One have I enjoyed a memoir so thoroughly. It makes me wish for a time machine to travel back and just sit at a nearby table at the Algonquin to listen to this witty crew create and crack wise or tuck myself away backstage as the geniuses involved in these timeless shows bring them to life. But until time travel is possible, Audible’s production of ON THE STREET WHERE I LIVE is the next best thing :)

Incredible Writing and Wonderful Reading

I knew I would enjoy the book based on its author and subject matter but had no idea how much listening to it vs reading would add to the experience. The way it was read coupled with Lerner’s witty, humorous, and deeply thoughtful writing was a match made in heaven. There were multiple times while listening where although I missed a book in my hands, I was extremely grateful to have stumbled across the audio recording instead. All this enjoyment is of course due to David Case’s exemplary reading. He reads with great inflection and character and has a voice so unique and pleasing I really would like to hear him read practically every book—I’m sure it would improve the quality of each text itself ten fold.
