Publisher's summary
Misadventures Memoirs' second installment The Tiger's Tears finds Sofia Hernández and her friend Dale Mathis in Guadalajara, building new lives and new homes with the generous rewards they were given by Tiara Tillman.
The dangers and uncertainties of Cancun seem far away. But trouble is brewing. The aggressive nationwide investigations into Martin Tillman's network of deviants, rapists, and murders results in many old homicide cases being reopened and re-examined. Not a few careers and lives are ruined in the process.
Before the long arm of the law can reach them, very powerful people deem it necessary to seek retribution and revenge on those they hold responsible for Tillman's death and the unraveling of their web of evil. Sofia, Mathis, and her family suddenly find themselves the target of the remnants of Tillman's black-hearted, vengeful gang of miscreants.

Story
In The Worst of You, just-wed architects Timo and Nia flee a murder scene, setting in motion a chain reaction of lies and betrayals that threaten to unravel everything they have built together. Twisted and propulsive, this thriller is told from the alternating perspectives of the couple and those close to them on Williwaw Island, each with their own motive to use the outcome of the murder case to their advantage. When a huge storm sweeps up the coast, trapping everyone on tiny Williwaw Island, it’s a race against time—and the elements — to stop the murderer from striking again.

Story
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Wow! Awesome and Mind-Blowing!
Misadventures Memoirs is the second book in this series that shows the deepness of the connections between Martin Tillman, Mathis, and Sofia. Now that Tillman is out of the way, there is a new killer. The Killer in this book was one of Martin Tillman’s cronies and partners in torture, sadistic behavior, and murder. Mathis, Sofia, and her family become targets as the long list of murders and crimes that occurred during Tillman’s time are reopened and closely examined. The new head of the evil empire has placed a target on the Tillman’s survivors and family. Deep in survival mode, Mathis and Sofia probe their feelings.
The authors, Al Boy and F. Carod weave a solid story within the world of a sadistic psychopath and delivers a tense and riveting listen. I will not sugarcoat this review as the story, and descriptions are eye-popping and at times surpass the horror themes found in Hostel and Saw. Boy and Carod show their listeners just how dark a person can become and how well a deviant can hide. The authors delve deeply into the world of sadistic psychopaths providing a nail-biting, breath-taking plot that will linger in the minds of the listeners long after the story ends.
While I do not enjoy hearing how people suffer, it is the psychological aspect of the story itself that is fascinating. This book is fascinating, terrifying, and riveting. Once you begin, there is no turning back until the last words are spoken.
The narrator, Pam Tsujioka delivers an excellent performance. She never misses a beat, speaks clearly and with the perfect amount of emotion. She slips into each character and delivers a noteworthy performance delivering each line in the tone and personality of each character. Each character has a unique voice; further, she speaks clearly and with a solid cadence.
I highly recommend this book because it is well done, intriguing, and fascinating.

Brutal But Good
4.5 out of 5 stars
The Tiger’s Tears is the second book in the Misadventures Memoirs series and this one jumps right into it. We’re also shown just how deep the connection between the characters is as the story progresses. Now, I knew going into this story what I was in for – and yet I still wasn’t completely prepared. I think that going into it with a mind that it’s going to be “splatterpunk” levels of horror, blood, and gore. Especially in the opening of the book might be enough to warn some people. Even then, Boy and Carod do a great job bringing to light a dark side of specific types of people.
Now, that part out of the way, just like the first book in this series – Boy and Carod are a duo to be reckoned with. They have a great flow to the way they write and each story seems to absolutely fly by. Each time I think I have stuff figured out the rug is pulled out from under my feet or over my eyes. I love reading a book like this because you never know what’s coming next.
I think the authors did a good job with The Tiger’s Tears, as I mentioned above, showing us the dark underbelly of certain types of people. I like the way that they went about it – it allowed me to get extremely uncomfortable when certain things were being talked about or done – but it also made me realize that’s supposed to be a “normal” human’s reaction to those things.
Add in the great narration by Pam Tsujioka and you have a book that I won’t soon forget. Her narration style was perfect for this book and really allowed their words to jump off the page.
