About this listen

Out in the cold fringes. The Oort cloud of the consciousness where light is scarce. Only the icy stare of countless unnamed stars to see you along your journey. A path with no beginning, nor port of call. A tortured sojourner lost in a hellish purgatory, searching in despair for an exit.

The Tower & the Star is not only a strange tale, but a frigid trek through melancholic dejection. One spirit's rove into the dark night and its arduous transformation throughout. An unmoored voyage with but a whit of hope to lay hold of that tunnel's subsequent light.

Well done, powerful

The Tower and The Star is a dark story told in a poetic style. It focuses on one’s journey through life highlighting the feelings of isolation, darkness, dejection, and feeling lost. The journey seems to have no end and no beginning but throughout the journey of torment described, one may see just a glimmer of light (hope).

The author, Brandon Hildreth encapsulates the emotions of one who has feelings of melancholy, severe sadness, and one suffering a great loss – either of a loved one or perhaps even himself. Written in an epic poetic style, this book flows smoothly and is rich with vivid imagery. There were times I could say, “Oh yeah, I’ve felt like that, or life has seemed like that for me.”

As narrator, Brandon Hildreth knew the nuances of what he wanted to communicate and did so well. He spoke fluidly and with ease. This is a dramatic or theatrical production that includes music and some sound effects. While they fit into the production well and do not overpower the narrator's voice, it was distracting for someone like me who does not enjoy those added pieces. For those that enjoy the more theatrical/dramatic presentations, this is perfectly done.

Thirty-Nine minutes in length, this is a short audiobook but powerfully written and performed. It will stick with you long after the last word is spoken, and the last musical note is played.

The production and quality of this audiobook were perfect. I encountered no issues; it was clear and crisp.
