About this listen

A young, inexperienced governess is charged with the care of Miles and Flora, two small children abandoned by their uncle at his grand country house. She sees the figure of an unknown man on the tower and his face at the window. It is Peter Quint, the master's dissolute valet, and he has come for Miles. But Peter Quint is dead.

To all immediate appearances, The Turn of the Screw is a ghost story. But are appearances what they seem? A subtle, self-conscious exploration of the haunted house of Victorian culture, filled with echoes of sexual and social unease, The Turn of the Screw is probably the most famous and eerily equivocal of all ghostly tales.

This book was okay but....

It took me a little while to get into it with interest. I may recommend it but to strongly as the ending killed it for me.

Caution!

This audiobook plays fine for about the first 1 hour and 35 minutes. The producers of this audiobook have then sneakily chosen a half hour section of the audiobook and replayed it back to back across the audiobooks duration - so it simply looks like an unabridged reading of the story.
i will be requesting a refund for this item, because I think that that the product description is false. I will also suggest that Audible removes this book from sale immediately.

Couldn't even finish....

I started this book with high hopes of a good 'scary' story. But the narrator was terribly hard to follow and I just could not get into the book, I gave it 2 hours and just coulnd't do it any more. Almost seemed like the author sat with the thesaurus instead of just eloquently writing the story. Don't bother with this one...
