When Ball Four was published in 1970, it created a firestorm. Bouton was called a Judas, a Benedict Arnold and a “social leper” for having violated the “sanctity of the clubhouse.” Baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn tried to force Bouton to sign a statement saying the book wasn’t true. Ballplayers, most of whom hadn’t read it, denounced the book. It was even banned by a few libraries. Almost everyone else, however, loved Ball Four.

Not a fish out of water anymore!
I've always wanted to try golf but felt totally lost. This audiobook was a lifesaver! It breaks down all the confusing stuff like rules and etiquette in a way that actually makes sense. The tips on perfecting your swing were super helpful - I finally feel like I know what I'm doing at the driving range. Plus, the advice on choosing clubs that fit your budget was clutch. I used to feel like a total fish out of water on the course, but now I can hang with my buddies without embarrassing myself. If you're new to golf and feeling overwhelmed, give this a listen. It'll get you from clueless to confident in no time.

A great way to learn the basics!
I’ve been very casually playing golf for years and am always embarrassed because I was never taught the basic parts of it and I don’t want to admit to those I golf with that I didn’t know which club to use or what different terms mean. This book was the perfect way for me to learn those things in the privacy of my own home before getting on the course. The authors imagery made me want to get back out on the course. I’m often annoyed by audiobook readers but this one didn’t bother me at all. Great easy read!

Great for Golf Newbies
I picked this up when I decided to take golf seriously, and it’s been such a big help. It breaks down everything from how to hold the club to understanding the basic rules, which made me feel way less intimidated. The etiquette section was a lifesaver—I didn’t want to embarrass myself on the course! Now I feel confident enough to join my friends for a round. Highly recommend if you’re just starting out like I was!

Good foundations and narrator
The audiobook - The Ultimate Golf Handbook for Beginners, has a lot of good information and resources. It is fun to learn new sports, especially as we prepare for retirement, and taking up golf in the future is one of my goals. I think I will need an actual human to teach me, but knowing the lingo and this type of info ahead of time is good.
The tips seem easy enough, and the author does a nice job with the layout. The narrator is good too.
