Can love overcome the tragic past between an FBI agent and a bridesmaid-for-hire?

Chloe Romano is a good FBI agent even though she fights a deep attraction to her team leader, the gorgeous Liam Esposito. Fraternizing with her boss is strictly forbidden so their feelings have to remain a secret longing.

When an FBI sting operation goes horribly wrong, Chloe's love for Liam become tangled with grief when she learns that he was the one that left her best friend behind to die.

Quickly, Chloe resigns from the FBI and launches a bridesmaid-for-hire business. As a personal assistant for brides suffering wedding meltdowns, Chloe loses herself in her new career - until the day Liam shows up out of the blue begging for Chloe's help in stopping a diamond heist at her wealthy cousin's wedding. Their deep emotions flare stronger than ever when Chloe is drawn to Liam's charming wit and intelligence.

Can Chloe save her cousin from the ultimate bridal meltdown when it looks like the groom is the culprit, and most importantly, is Chloe brave enough to learn the truth and give Liam and their love a second chance?

Monday night at the movies on audio

The "Undercover Bridesmaid" is a great audio book. You get a front row seat at the movies without opening your eyes. I could picture it all as it happened. It's well read, holds your attention to the end and keeps you guessing at the same time. Just when you think you know who the culprit is, you get surprised.

A clean romantic suspense

Just the right amount of mystery and romance. I love being able to trust the author with my emotions and vulnerability. She keeps it clean and sweet- but exciting and interesting. I really enjoy this author and the narrator is great too.

Refreshing.

UNDERCOVER BRIDESMAID is my first experience with Kimberley Montpetit’s writing. I enjoyed it! The story was refreshing - there was excellent pacing of the romance, the primary and secondary characters had depth, and it was clean (except for kissing).

Chloe and Liam have had a falling out and Chloe’s cousin’s wedding presents a second chance at love for them. There’s some serious investigating Chloe undertakes during her “frivolous” job of being a bridesmaid, making this a light romantic suspense - although the danger is deadly. Liam is not always present, but when he is, he is neither overbearing nor overwhelming and that is a pleasant change from other writers’ dominating, obsessive heroes.

There is a prequel to this novel, FBI BRIDE, and it ends on a much complained about cliffhanger leading to this novel. An interesting fact is that THE UNDERCOVER BRIDESMAID was written first. I’m happy without having read the prequel, because in THE UNDERCOVER BRIDESMAID, the author gave me enough background information to understand Liam and Chloe’s history. I felt Chloe’s pain and conflicted feelings clearly. Without the prequel there were no spoilers about the conflict that tore the couple apart in the past. Finding out the detail of the conflict is one of the mysteries I savoured in this story.

This author can write! So I’ll probably go back and read the prequel soon. I don’t mind reading Chloe and Liam’s romance out of order.

Since it’s a novel about an undercover bridesmaid, I should not have been surprised by the amount of wedding preparation detail. I found that too much, but the title of the novel served as a warning, so I shouldn’t complain, but clearly I am. This is a minor point in an overall solid romance I enjoyed.

I enjoyed narrator Jennifer Jill Araya’s performance. Like the author, she was new to me, and she was excellent.

I recommend this story for a clean, refreshing light-suspenseful, romantic reading experience, especially on Audible for the excellent narration.

Story was fine but the narrator was weak

The fake British accent the narrator tried to get away with was grating! Made me want to stop listening.

Great story

This was a great story that had lots of action and romance. Followed right along with the first book. Except nothing sad in this one. I enjoyed it from beginning to the end!

Great continuation of the story

Typically, in a romance series, the hero and heroine's love story is played out (meeting, falling in love, and starting their happily ever after) all in a single book. So, when The FBI Bride (the first book in this series) didn't even include a bride, I was very disappointed and felt somewhat cheated. I liked the characters and wanted that traditional story arc.

So I was eager to read the second book in the installment to see where the story takes them. Imagine my surprise when the story starts a full year later! Chloe and Liam aren't together. As a matter of fact, Chloe despises Liam and wants nothing to do with him. She's content building her new business and leaving things at that, happy to always be the bridesmaid and never the bride.

But when her cousin's wedding requires the involvement of the FBI, Chloe and Liam's paths cross once again, and the sparks fly. But not in a good way!

It was interesting to see where the story went from there. I won't share any spoilers, but let's just say there's as much danger, intrigue and chemistry in Book 2 as there was in Book 1.
