About this listen

THE CHILD WAS STRAWBERRY-SWEET AND LOVING…BUT THE MAN WAS FORBIDDEN FRUIT. Annette Jordan had accepted the unavoidable reality that she must toil as a governess to provide for herself. Thankfully, her charge was a joy—a vision of youthful beauty, owning a spirit of delight. But it was Annette’s employer, Lord Gareth Barrett, who proved to be the trial—for she soon found herself living in the all-too-cliché governess’s dream of having fallen desperately in love with the man who provided her wages. The child loved her, but could she endure watching hopelessly as the beautiful woman from a neighboring property won Lord Barrett’s affections? I would have liked the story much more if it had been read by a real person and not AI. A couple of words were pronounced incorrectly and the emotion wasn’t interpreted correctly. I almost quit listening because of the AI, but I wanted to hear the rest of the story.

The story itself was good. I wish the characters had been developed. Little more of a backstory/set up.

Good story- bad AI reading

Good story, but ended quite abruptly. Virtual voice is okay, yet needs more fluctuations in tone.

The virtual voice still needs a lot of work. It needs a virtual pronunciation coach.

Old tropes

Author repeats the phrase describing how the main male character's "... blue eyes pierced through her flesh... into her very soul..." (quote might not be exact). The author's descriptions of the main female character's reaction to the main male character make her seem like a silly young teenager. Overall, just so silly I couldn't get past the first few chapters.

The heroine was pathetic, and the hero was an ass. The heroine, the governess, fell in love with the hero at first sight. The hero knew this, so he taunted and humiliated her throughout the entire book. The hero's unwanted love interest also taunted the heroine by calling her jealous in front of the hero. The hero is such as ass, he used the heroine to get rid of his unwanted love interest by kissing the heroine in front of her. The unwanted love interest got her revenge by catching the heroine when she was alone and whipped her with a riding crop. What did the pathetic heroine do? She laid in the dirt and cried. Not my type of heroine. I was extremely happy that this was a very short story.

Pathetic Heroine

the story it quite good and if I had been reading it on my tablet or the book in my hands I would have a better review. Unfortunately this story is read by a computer generated voice and was really hard to listen to. Every moment that was meant to express anything from from anger to passion was monotone and flat. If nothing else, it made me pay even more attention to who/what is narrating in the future.
