Publisher's summary

The elegant, intelligent amateur sleuth Lord Peter Wimsey is one of detective literature's most popular creations. Ian Carmichael is the personification of Dorothy L. Sayers' charming investigator in this BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation. The dignified calm of the Bellona Club is shattered when Lord Wimsey finds General Fentiman dead in his favourite chair. A straighforward death by natural causes? Perhaps... but why can no one remember seeing the general the day he died? And who is the mysterious Mr Oliver? Lord Peter moves between London and Paris, salon and suburbs, to unfold the intriguing case.

Surprisingly good

After sneezing part way into an old library book, I reluctantly turned to the abridged, dramatized audiobook. It was delightful, and I think it covered the plot adequately.

Classic Cozy Mystery

Ms Sayers detective stories are in the cozy mystery camp, not violent and sex is alluded to, not described.

This one is a performance piece with Ian Carmichael as Lord Peter. It's entirely enjoyable and a relaxing listen. My only complaint is that Audible hasn't provided the entire Lord Peter series.

This is not the book

This BBC "Dramatization" of 2 and a half hours does not include the insightful and beautiful writing of Dorothy Sayers in her book. What a waste!
