  • Session Three: Exploring the narratives found throughout the texts
  • Session Four: Stories of Atman or the Self
  • Session Five: Philosophical interpretations

Graham Burns is a former city-lawyer-turned-yoga-teacher and academic. He has a master’s degree (with distinction) in religions from SOAS, University of London, where he focussed on ancient Indian religion and philosophy and the historical roots of the Yoga traditions. He is now in his final year researching a PhD at SOAS on the philosophical teachings of the Vedic Upaniṣads. Graham teaches undergraduate Hinduism at SOAS and has also lectured on the SOAS MA course in Traditions of Yoga and Meditation. Excellent, great perspective

Great comparative survey of the principal Upanishads, you’ll find yourself taking notes on some of this content! My favorite takeaway was the idea that the atman may in some cases have the same character as a reflexive pronoun.

Excellent introduction

Great introduction for the complete novice and so good I believe it will be enlightening for the scholar as well. Provides the background and context for the Upanishads. I was hoping for a context from which to go into the Upanishads themselves. This background was very well presented, enjoyable, and understandable. The narration is perfect. Very good pacing and inflection to aid understanding and enjoyment. I will listen again.
