About this listen

The Used World Emporium is the sprawling antique store where Hazel, Claudia, and Rebekah pass their days surrounded by dusty furniture, cast-off clothes, and ancient housewares. But with the unexpected arrival of two babies and the unfolding of not one but three love stories, each spanning generations, their formerly used world becomes new again.

Heartrending, hilarious, and inspiring by turn, The Used World is the book that Kimmel's loyal fans have been waiting for - and it is certain to win her legions of new ones.

Too much description

Is there anything you would change about this book?

YES - I love an author who can give good description....enough for you to get the picture. This author gives so much description on things that have little to do with the story, but doesn't go into description for more things that DO pertain. Many wasted words.

Just...Okay.

I liked the detailed, evocative descriptions of The Used World Emporium. I could catch the vibe of the various rooms full of furniture, books and oddments, now warehoused like inmates at a senior center. I could imagine their former glory and prestige as they decorated the human world.

However, I thought the actual characters in the story lacked
luster and definition, and I found some parts of the story to be
quite sad, an impression not helped by the deep, low pitch of the narrator's voice. On the other hand, there were some unusual pairings, which added to the book's appeal.

So, on balance, although I almost stopped reading this novel several times, I did manage to follow its twists and turns and enjoyed the experience.

One of my favorites!

I love this book. it is a dense , multi generational story that also includes an inspired pastor. in spite of the many difficulties and even tragedies, it feels like an uplifting book to me.and C.J. Critt is my absolute favorite reader.

Unique confusion

This author skips back and forth in time in a rather confusing manner (you really have to go a few minutes before you know who is speaking and in what time frame). Despite this, the character development is very good. These women are all flawed and this makes them realistic. I recommend for a different kind of read.

The book is marvelous but the narration is awful

I'm never purchase another audible book that this woman narrates. She over enunciates and has way too many inflections in her voice for the story that she's reading. It really ruined the story for me. I've read this book multiple times and her rendition isn't even close to the "voice" of the book, if you know what I mean. It's a shame because the story is compelling but I couldn't make it to listen all the way through.

Unsavory

If a book is going to describe homosexual relationships in detail, the summary should include these details. Mysticism and outright anti-Christian content throughout the pages of this "story".

If you're not ADD yet, you will be after this

Similar to randomly flipping through a book and reading a few sentences her and there. It's hard to follow and jumps around all of the time, making the story incredibly slow and seemingly pointless. Ok for a time filler.
